Hi all,
This might seem like a simple question, but what are the differences between a 1 bolt and 3 bolt cam on a big block?  Is it just the timing gear that you have that determines what type of cam you can get?  If you have a 1 bolt and want a 3 bolt do you just need a 3 bolt timing gear and cam?
Thanks

To me, after a 1 bolt failure, the 3 bolt's superior design in any build is the no-brainer way to go.  Yes, the cam and timing gear will need to be both 3 bolt to work.  Chrysler's factory engineers put the 3 bolt setups in the Hemi engines for a reason.

I wouldn't let the fact I have a 1 bolt timing gear deter me from buying a 3 bolt timing gear in place of it, even if it means spending a few more dollars.

but still 440 6 packs with similar powerplant got 1 bolt... and all MP cams are 1 bolt ( as far I know ;D )

I think although 3 bolts are a nice and better upgrade, for street/strip 1 bolts are fairly enough

Only the '69 6-pack had a single-bolt cam, '70-'72 had the same 3-bolt sprocket and double row chain as the Hemi.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

And as for the MP cams, there are several three bolt ones available for the big blocks.
