Can I bolt down my steering wheel w/o centerlink hooked up?

Is it ok to center the steering wheel and tighten it down eventhough I don't have the steering linkage hooked up? I've lost the pitman arm nut plus I was going to wait until I install the motor/transmission before I fulled hooked up the steering linkage.

Unless someone has modified the spline on the wheel or the shaft, it will only go on in one position. There should be one of the spline grooves uncut.
