HI all,

I had a speedometer that only recorded the milage when driving, the needle stayed at zero. I checked everything out and it looked good, so I sent it off to Auto Instruments for a rebuild. 175.00 not bad! after 6 weeks it was returned and after a day of reinstalling the dash it is the same, I called the company and explained my problem and they said they would call back. They didn't. I was just wondering if any of you have used them. They have a good reputation from the adds I have read, and I don't think I am doing anything wrong with installation as the odometer still works.

I had them do my instruments probably close to 4 years ago now.  They were a little slow at the time but the work seemed to be ok.  I have heard a lot of people being unsatisfied with their work lately and them taking longer and longer with their turn around time.

had them do the entire cluster on my 69 RT, suffice it to say the gauges looked great but didnt work properly upon installation (and I had it installed by Pro's)
Bottom line - Redline is now doing the restoration for my '68.

The face on my speedometer was in great shape, they were supposed to redo the number dial and repair the speedometer, I really don't think it was touched.

I have heard good things lately about Redline instruments for what its worth.

It takes all of about 2 minutes to verify the speedo and odometer are indicating correctly after its been gone through.  I cannot understand why it was not checked out prior to  rebuild then again after whatever problem they found initially. Why reface a junk speedo?
PM me If it turns out you need a new speedo head. I can help you out.

I guess I also want to make sure it is not something that I am missing, the cable is new and the odometer racks up the milage but the needle does not move off zero. It was this way when I sent it to them

One other question guys, I scratched the face of my gauge cover installing it. Does anyone know what color of matt black paint and type of paint that is used?

You need his help, I'd be PMing him and asking for it.  :Twocents:

I used to recommend Auto Instruments to everyone.  Years ago I told Gentry I heard about him on moparts and he had never heard of them.  Shortly after he was prominently displayed w/ an ad.

Lately I've been hearing lots of bad things from them but AI always tried to correct it I thought.  It's a shame the quality of work has declined.

You can't go wrong w/ lilwendal.

Lilwendel refurbished my switches, and did a great job.  When the headlight switch had noticeable fogging, not his work, he replaced it ASAP.  Recommended to all who are restoring Mopars!
