Hi all,
I,m having a trouble with a 73´318 engine, it does not have oil pressure.
It was working ok until i  mounted an Edlbrock intake and a Holley 4 barrel carb on it .I also put new spark plug wires at the same time an i had some troubles to fire up  it because i mounted a corossed wire. :brickwall:
Once that i put the wire in his correct place, the engine started but without oil pressure. :shruggy:

I have put a new oil press.switch, also have blowed  the oil galleries with air and seem to be clean.
The oil did not arrive to the filter, so i have removed the pump and checked it out of the engine, twisting it with a drill and it throws oil.
I have removed the oil pump driveshaft too,and seems to be ok (More or less).I just noticed the bushing is tight in the shaft,is not in the block... :icon_smile_question:

It is driving me crazy,i have ordered one of those prime shafts,to help me to find the trouble.

If somebody has any idea i would be nice  to hear it.
Thanks.

Sounds to me like it may have been a bad wire from the oil sending unit, especially since the wires are disturbed when changing an intake manifold..

I'd check and confirm the readings with a good mechanical gauge first.

The oil pressure switch is new andthe wiring is ok.The light is on if you touch the ground with the therminal.

I have checked it  with a mechanical gauge. 0  pressure.

I have removed the  oil filter and i have crancked  the engine(Without the spark plugs) and the oil does not arrive to the oil filter holes.

Look closely at the pickup tube for cracks....if it sucks air there will be no prime.

Will do.
However i have tested the pump giving it movement with a drill and  submerging the pickup end in a tin of oil and it throws oil.

Another doubt i have,if i order a new drive shaft, since the old bushing is tight to the old shaft, will i need a tool to mount a new one?
The bronze bushing of Mopar Performance will need the tool to be instaled?

Thanks in advance

Coke, you should install a new bushing in your block while it's apart. The bushing has to fit tight and not rotate on the oil pump drive shaft. If it's loose in the block there is a procedure called "stakeing". Normally they just press in and you're good to go but you will have to try it first....and see if it's snug.

Check the oilpump and make sure the bypass is not stuck open....if it is the pressure will be non-existant.  ;)

Thanks Ron,

Then  there is not way to   install  it without the tool?
The engine is mounted in the truck

Is "Stakeing" the name of the trouble or the name of the procedure to fix it?
