Be sure to mail your return in a timely manner, because this year, filing taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment.
This is a very exciting new program that can be explained using the Q and A format:
Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.
Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.
Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.
Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Shut up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the federal government actually borrowed the money (increased our debt to foreign countries) then gave it to us to spend, and then we'll have to pay back the loan with interest to the foreigners.

All I know is that we have to claim this money as income and be taxed on it next year when we file..now how is that free money then?

But I'm not in the 100 percent tax bracket!  I'll gladly pay income tax on that little bit to get the rest of it.  It seems better than paying in.
