I've heard of '68 Bengal Chargers but I've never heard of a '72 version..

Anybody know anything about this car? Is it legit or somebody making a fake claim?

I'm having a hard time believing that you spend 26 hours a day on this site and don't remember the thread 4 months ago about the '72's...

I know there is a member here that has the only other one know to exist.  If you do a search here you will probably find a thread on it.

If indeed there is suppose to be only 2 known to exist, the one listed on craigslist would be the 2nd one. Interesting......Can't say I've ever heard of one or seen one in person.

hemi-hampton

The one on Craigslist is only one sequential serial # behind mine meaning it rolled down the assembly line right behind mine. The VON # & Fender tag is almost Identical to mine. Craislist car is the same car that had a small article about it in a magazine a few years back. LEON.

Leon, is your car restored?  By the looks of the second pic it is.  Is that the original hood treatment or something you had made up?

Either way more pics!

The guy has cut his price in half on this one - he was asking $30k in January.

The Bengal Charger that Dewey found (and the associated threads) was a few months before Cody registered (under his current user name).

Not to take anything away from them, but I'm guessing the majority of them (not all of them) were nothing more than a low optioned Charger probably with a 318 and the Bengal badging for promotional purposes in the Ohio area. Would I be way off key believing this? There apparently is a few of them out there as I have run across a few on the internet, but I doubt many. Neat odd and rare car. Kinda reminds me of the "72 Rallye 318 Hemi Orange car that was around here. It had the Power Bulge Hood with Black out. I didn't locate it fast enough, and a local guy stripped out the car and the doors showed up on his '72 e Charger about a year later. That car had been in the area for at least 15 years that I can remember. I couldn't believe he did that.

You're pretty much correct. The badging had to be supplied by the dealer. I'm sure they created a second window sticker to show a Bengal Charger special price.

It would be really cool to find some old ads on that car. Maybe search the OH library for old newspapers with the car being advertised? I know if I owned it, I would be searching whatever I could.

Goodz

My friend is a die-hard Bengals fan.  I have to show this to him.  He is gonna crap himself.  LOL :2thumbs:

With only about 50 made originally and only a couple alleged to be RT's, there can't be many left.

I know of 4 (maybe 5 but can't verify that last one). If you don't mind, can you see if you can get some info (like VIN, fender tag, build sheet) for the site and the 68 Registry? Either that or give him my contact information. Thanks!

I'll see what I can do but I brought my camera but the car was covered in parts etc but he showed me the BENGAL emblems that were mint.He said you could get them put on the car at the dealer but his were left off... Also he showed me the fender tag which was XS29...with a paint code of 999 which I believe is the Bengal orange paint code??? He was a great guy & I'll be getting a bunch of parts from him I'm sure over the next year. His car was found in Hazzard County & he is going to restore it to be judged in the highest level..??concourse?? This is years away as his 4 kids need to finish school..All NOS pieces & man is he selective :o but like he said anything he can't use is for sale...nice

I'm going to see if he'll join this forum

'68 was the only year they produced a set number [50] of Bengal Chargers. The other years, if someone wanted one the dealer would special order/modify it.

hemi-hampton

Nobody knows how many were made in 72, I asked Galen Govier at a local car show what he knew about them & he knew nothing, or not much, But about shiiittt himself when I showed him Pictures, ect,  of mine & he couldn't grab for his digital camera fast enough which kinda surprised me. LEON.

I think in the case of the Bengal Charger rare and desirable DO go together though.  Maybe not like a Hemi car but there is a bit of a premium attached to them.
