Hey all, just saying hi, new member here from the Uk, great forum, exactly what i have been looking for!

Id post some pics of my charger, but i cant, i dont own one right now! :'(  IM currently found in my Range Rover, and frequenting rangerovers.net, another US based forum which has helped me sooo much!

Hence the reason for being here! im in a position to buy one very soon, a resto job of course (im doing well, but not that well!!)

Fortunately i have a very good collection of people around me to assist where i fail, a body guy, and a very very good mechanic, who are all looking forward to getting involved.

Now all i have to do is find the right car,a 68,69 or 70.

Does anyone know of some good litiriture i can read to nerd up a bit more? I know a fair bit, but one can always learn more!

Thanks and im sure you will see me around!

Well, this place is as good as any for a start!  Here are some additional things you might do:

1) Purchase original brochures or search out sites with scans of brochures.  That way you can see how the cars originally looked, or how they are supposed to look.  The more you know about that, the better you will be able to spot modifications that you may or may not like, and may impact the value of the car you are interested in.  Incorrect seats, options, colors, engines, transmission/conversions are not uncommon.

2) Join online groups (yahoo, MSN) and listen in/join in on conversations about the cars

3) Buy original repair manuals, not Haynes or other "general" manuals for the year you are interested in.

4) For videos, go to youtube and check out various videos on each year you like.  For feature films take a look at "Bullitt" for a 1968 version, and "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" for the 1969 version.  Start to get an idea of subtle differences that may shade which way you want to go.

5) Find a UK-based Mopar group and attend as many get togethers as you can. You will be able to get rides--unless the guys are complete aholes, and you WILL get some of those--in various cars and get an idea of what a 318 car feels like, vs. a 383/big block car.

6) Get extremely familiar with fender tag codes and VIN number breakdowns.  Not only is it fun to decode stuff, but it is important when you start looking.  Google/yahoo search under Mopar vin decoders or mopar fender tags and you will get dozens of sites.

7) Also there are hundreds of Mopar books at the bookstore.  Use caution and always crosscheck "facts".  There is more BS and people who don't know what they are talking about (like the 440 Hemi type guy) than in any other hobby.  Places like THIS forum are great because you get a lot of cross-opinions, corrections, and it's filled with knowledgeable people.

These are my immediate thoughts to help you nerd up!

Welcome  ! I'm also new w/o a Charger.

Also far as literature, there's a Charger Restoriation Guide that is worth checking out. It has alot of good info. You might also want to check out eBay, there's tons of literature available there as well. Good luck!

Hi
I'm in England, have you checked the MMA site?
http://www.moparuk.com/forums/index.php
they're a friendly bunch ( as are the guys on here) and have plenty of good advice..you need to join the club to post though..
theres 2 68s and a 69 for sale on there at the moment..
there also a couple on UK ebay last time I looked,
They're not actually hard to find over here, just can be a bit spendy compared to some other musclecars

I know the cars for sale in the post above they are in scotland near glasgow and both are good 'uns...

or you could import one yourself, but do your research first as there could be lots of hidden costs..

Wow, thanks all, what a welcome! some really usefull info there,

68charger383, thanks for the link, some nice cars there, but i want a car i can put my touch on, i want a resto job, need something to do in the evenings (and mornings, and weekends!)

some of the cars for sale on here have caught my eye, so i might be calling a few of you soon.

My uncle was always importing US cars to his farm and rebuilding them, thats how i caught the bug, i learned to drive in a pink caddy (elvis job!) so im itching to get back behind the wheel on the wrong side of a car!

Jon smith, where abouts are you? im in Royal Tunbridge Wells down in Kent by the way (RD!) about 20 miles from Big Ben!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, so first question of many i fear:

Whats the general opinion of general lee's? im guessing some love em, some hate em? im undecided right now, it would make a great publicity tool for my business (i own a car wash and detailing shop) plus im assured i could make £200 per weekend hireing her out for weddings etc.
But then when i flick through the pages here, i cant help but adore the blacks and greens (my wife says green, but im unsure)

anyway, thanks for the input, just scanning a few pages and stealing links has got me alot of suppliers that i would never have found otherwise to thanks, and ill get some pics upo when i get my car sometime soon!

Jon Smith

I'm in Preston lancs

Personally I dont really get the general lee thing..
I cant see why a grown man would want to make his car look like a prop from a mediocre kids TV show, plus I think its overdone, I've heard there's already over 20 generals in the UK
however thats just my opinion, dont let me put you off
yeah they do earn quite a bit for their owners doing weddings etc

black and green are nearly as common, but they look classier IMHO

JMF

Hi Pete, i'm in England too, as Jon said the MMA is about the best place over here for Mopar chat and advice, I had a 68 Charger a few years back but ultimately had to get rid of it because I was fed up with trying to find a garage big enough here in London to fit it, so bare that in mind before you get one, they don't fit in the majority of UK sized garages, depends where you live I guess, here's my old Charger below, will almost definitely get another one some day, probably will be a black 68 : )

He's right about the size of the garage, here's an old garage of mine with my old 68 Mustang in

This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

hey all, good point about the garage situation, fortunately i have a double garage space, and a rather well sized workshop at my car wash, so im going to be ok there. my range rover looks small in its space, so ill be fine!

JMF, lovely car you had there, shame she had to go eh, thanks for the link, ill be over there shortly!

Forgive my ignorance, but what is that?
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

I'm glad someone else noticed that as i've been saying that for years, the rear fastback styling looks a lot like a 69/70 Mustang, these are not cheap either, a Vantage especially is approaching £100k
