How are its sales compared to the Mustang?  Because I have no doubt that the '99 concept would have mopped the floor with it.  If you compare the sales of the new Magnum Sedan with other cars in the "effeminate urban male market," it probably is a success.  The problem is that they targeted an oversaturated market.  So they are pretty close to their sales expectations.  However, the 20-50 yr old heterosexual males, and mid-life crisis crowd ONLY have the Mustang to choose from, and many in that group are still holding out because they managed to get into a car show back in '99 and are hoping that DCX one day sees the light.

I wish someone at SEMA had built a two-door '99 concept version of the General Lee.  I would love to see the public response to that.

And "ugly" is a matter of opinion, yes, but if you put a photo of the '99 concept against a photo of the '06 "Charger" in a poll, it would be ridiculous how badly ol' ugly would lose.
Matt. 14:8 (KJV) "And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, 'give me here John Baptist's head in a Charger.'"

You don't like E-bodies but they are selling for record amounts to collectors so by your logic I should continually pound the sales figures over your head in some lame attempt to convince you it should be more than it is to you. Should I seek you out every time an E-body sells for $170k and tell you all about it? Will it change your mind about them?

I don't like e-bodies, but I am not so brainless that I say "e-bodies suck, so they're worthless."  I see that e-bodies are selling for hundreds of thousands (and in some cases...millions) of dollars so OBVIOUSLY someone likes them.  I don't like them, but that don't mean that the rest of the world doesn't.  This is what's known as "unclouded logic."

QuoteNo one who thinks the '06 is a joke cares about the sales figures. FACTS or not they don't make us like the looks of it any more.

My argument is not with that fact that you don't like it.  I have never had a beef with anyone saying they don't like the car, hence my e-body comparison.  I don't care if you don't like it, it is your right to hate the car...can I make this any clearer?  My argument is with statements like "they know they mad a mistake,"  "Daimler screwed the pooch," etc.

QuoteWhat do your sales figures prove? That some metrosexual couldn't choose between it and a Corolla so he tossed a coin? That Magnum sales dropped because the "Charger" was built? That someone was too lazy to get the real Charger he wanted so he settled? I'm not avoiding FACTS because facts don't change the look of the car.

Nope, it doesn't prove any of those things.  What it proves is that a bunch of whiners on a message board were absolutely wrong about what sells in today's market.  It proves that everything that you have said up to now about the car being a failure is wrong.  Period...end of argument.  People who buy cars are buying the Charger.  This is ALL that matters...nothing else does.  Chrysler is in business to sell cars.  If this sticks in your craw so badly, don't ever buy another new Chrysler again and then you will have made your feelings known...hell! Write 'em a letter about it.  If enough people write them letters telling them that, maybe things will change.

QuoteThe '06 apologists continually avoid the styling issue in favor of performance, sales figures, RWD, V8, whatever, for no logical reason other than to start arguments and try to prove that ugly cars CAN sell well. So far no one has convinced me it's selling well. Just for kicks let's compare '06 sales to the Honda Accord. Yes it's my opinion about the looks but that's ALWAYS been the crux of the issue with the car and harping on this other garbage does nothing for the looks of the four door wannabe.

Okay...lemme explain this one...more...time.

Chrysler said they wanted to sell 60,000 Chargers this year.  If they sell 60,001, the car is a success.

There is only ONE factory cranking out three LX cars.  This factory is running at capacity and shipping every car they sell, there is only a 30 day supply of LX cars on hand.  This is very good...for ANY company.  Comparisons to any other car really are useless.

Bigdude (or lebowski, or whatevever) can compare Charger sales to intrepid sales all he wants, but there are several inescapable FACTS:

1.  Intrepids at their sales peak were leaving the dealership with approximately 3 grand on the hood as well as additional dealer discounts (the charger leaves with a 500 dollar rebate).

2.  Intrepids were about 5 grand cheaper than Chargers (before rebates and incentives).

The intrepid (like it or not) was replaced by the Magnum AND the Charger.  Chargers are taking away Magnum sales (Magnum, BTW, being a car I KNEW would be a sales problem as soon as a sedan came out).  Eventually, I figure DCX will kill off the Magnum because the Charger will be selling in volumes of about 9000 units while the magnum barely breaks 1500 units a month.

You don't like the Charger?  That's cool with me.  You think its ugly?  Hey, I'm fine with that.  Stand upon the highes mountaintop and shout it out with a megaphone.  Broadcast it on the radio.  Put on television commercials.  I will applaud your efforts.

Call it a failure and that's when I'll interject my sales figures because it ain't.

I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Arguing about an ugly, German POS is a monumental waste of time. And I've got better things to do.

There is this guy in my town that is driving one and I cannot wait to pull up next to him and leave him setting.   He drives around like he is a badass.   He probably never owned a REAL Charger.

What does he do that makes him look, feel or think he is a badass?

Tunes cranked, arm hanging out the window or maybe greased back hair and a pack of smokes rolled up in his sleeve!

Ok First off, I know the guy and he is a dick.   Secondly, he has pulled up next to me when I was driving the wifes Intrepid and he takes off from the light like he has something.   Thirdly, he drives around with one arm drapped over his steering wheel and acts unfriendly.   He just rubs me the wrong way.   He is a wannabe
