I have a Eddy 600 cfm carb on my -69 440 HP with everything standard, would I feel in performance if the carb is to
small for my application? How can you know what's right?  :scratchchin:

Well, the stock CFM rating on a 440 when it was new from the factory was somewhere above 700 CFM.  There's actually a formula to help you figure this out:  CID (displacement) x RPM /3456=CFM.

Based on that formula, your 600 CFM 'carb isn't too far off, but if the factory equipped them with at least 700 CFM then I'd at least match that rating...

Honestly, I feel as if it's too small for a 440. I probably wouldn't run anything less than 750cfm. Using that formula, 700cfm would be good for 5500rpms and 750cfm would be good for 6000rpms. Your current setup is only good for 4500rpms. It's definitely too small and if it were me I'd change it.

Get the message, I will come into problems on higher RPM's but for normal driving it doesn't matter?

Yep, that's pretty much what it boils down to. For normal crusing you should be ok, for racing around your going to run out of top end.

With the small carb the throttle response will be pretty strong but it will run out of air long before it reaches it's potential. Even a stock 440 will want 700 cfm or more.  :Twocents:

Ron,
The GTX has a Airgrabber installation with the oval aircleaner, does that effects choise of carburator?

Nope, either an eddy or Holley style carb will work.

If you're looking for a vacuum secondary carb the proform 750 would be an excellent choice. Fabulous creations makes a nice stock looking dual feed fuel line setup for the holley carbs too.  :2thumbs:
