that is odd... i have a set of hooker super comps in my 73 rr attached to a 440 and I only had to ding in the #1 tube to clear the manual steering gearbox, everything else fit perfect.

The low-deck 400 will do that.  Headers for a 440 won't always fit.

I put a set of hooker comps on my 73 last spring. I've got a 383 in it. They fit fine. I needed to remove a bunch of stuff to get them up there but once in place they cleared everything. I ended up pulling the torsion bars and dropping the tie rods, taking out several of the exhaust manifold studs, and starter, Then they slipped in fairly easy.

Do you have aftermarket  motor mounts or was your car originally a small block, perhaps that could explain the problem.

here is a good lesson, just loosen your engine mount bolts, jack up the car a tad 6", then bring your headers in from the bottom on the drivers side, the pass should fit with no issues.  that way you dont have to remove all that equipment.

RD I was able to do that with my last set of Headers, Blackjacks I believe. But the Comps were too long to be able to do that way, I couldn't get the front end lifted enough to slip the header up into place. --- Now if I would have had a lift it would have been a different story. :icon_smile_big:
