What person that lives in rural America with any self respect would want to referred to by that term ?

A Redneck maybe?

I live in the deep south....way deep. The rednecks around here are not bothered by the term at all. :yesnod:

Redneck is an offensive term .
Not to me.

This SUPER ZIT is more offensive to me than the term 'Redneck". :nana:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Back to the redneck discussion.

Around here (North Carolina), you call a man (or woman) a redneck and you might be picking your teeth up off the ground.  They may refer to themselves or each other as rednecks (much like black people with the word "nigger") but when someone else calls them rednecks, they better be ready for an asswhuppin'.

A redneck here is a person who is lazy and lives in a trashed house or trailer and does not care about his personal appearance.  He is generally ignorant and completely racist and xenophobic.  They care only about themselves and don't work to provide a good life for their kids.  They are useless human beings.

A hardworking man who lives in a rural area, cares about his appearance and that of his posessions.  A person who struggles to provide a good life for those that depend on him is known as "country" or a "good ol boy."
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

I am an old school small town red neck and I dont care what people think or call me.  My tatoos, the way I talk, the cars I drive, the type of women I like.  I dont care at all what you call me just as long as you are not putting me down.

For example, you can call me a red neck if you are joking around and having fun "with me", no problem.  But if you are making fun "of me" and call me a dumb red neck or try and put me down as lesser than you, then we have an problem. Its not the red neck term that  would make me mad, its how it's used because of your intent.

By the way, that damn Zit is nasty as hell.  Did you call in a hazmat team to pop that sucker?

Whoa, had to look Xenophobia up. :eek2: Anyway, IMO the point is not whether the term redneck is bad or good, the point is that hemihead cruises around this site looking for words and prases that will put his shorts in a wad. He's apparently appointed himself Lord of Linguistic Morality on this site. I just happen to think it's pretty stupid to go through life looking for something to be pissed off about all the time and trying to mold the world to your way of thinking. It's much easier to change yourself than it is to change everyone else. Sorry, I'm just a little fed up with the PC brainwashing in this country.

 Redneck:
prejudiced term applied to White Americans, especially those of the southern states.

This is from the wickapedia of slanderous terms....Just for your information.

And my father-in-law is from West Virginia and that term is a no-no as well as the confederate flag in his home.

If David Allan Coe can sing about it then its all good.

Country DJ's knows that I'm an outlaw
They'd never come to see me in this dive
Where bikers stare at cowboys
Who are laughing at the hippies
Who are praying they'll get outta here alive
The loud mouth in the corner's gettin' to me
Talking 'bout my earrings and my hair
I guess he ain't read the signs that say I been to prison
Someone ought to warn him 'fore I knock him off his chair

Cause my longhair just can't cover up my red neck
I've won every fight I've ever fought
Hey I don't need some turkey telling me that I ain't country
And sayin' I ain't worth the damned ol' ticket that he bought

Cause I can sing all them songs about Texas
And I still do all the sad ones that I know
They tell me I look like Merle Haggard
And sound a lot like David Allen Coe

And the bar maid in the last town that we played in
Knew the words to every song I'd wrote
She said Jimmy Rabbit turned her on to my last album
Just about the time the jukebox broke
Yeah Johhny Cash helped me get out of prison
Long before Rodriguez stole that goat
I've been the Rhinestone Cowboy for so long I can't remember
And I can do you every song Hank Williams ever wrote

Cause I can sing all them songs about Texas
And I still do all the sad ones that I know
I can't help it, I look like Merle Haggard
And I sound a lot like David Allen Coe

But the country DJ's all think I'm an outlaw
And they'd never come to see me in this dive
Where bikers stare at cowboys
Who are laughing at the hippies
Who are praying they'll get out of here alive

Mr. C Stripe.
I'm  a native West Virginian,, my Great Grand Father was an original "redneck" as has been described, my Father was born in a "company" house.
You may call me a redneck..as long as there is respect in your voice....But if you do it from the window of your Beemer as you try to cut me off on I270 you will have a whole lot of Dodge Ram paint on the side of your car....There is a difference !!!
With that said, I don't live in a shack, I wear shoes, and I say yes sir and yes ma'am....a difference most "flatlanders" (look that one up we have names for you too) will never understand...

Flatlander It's been a long time sense I heard that word.  :2thumbs:  I'm a Virginian blue ridge good old boy who moved to Texas thirty two years ago. I don't think I ever look up anymore.  :'(

Being from Wisconsin, I had to look it up, to better follow along with this thread.

flatlander (plural flatlanders)

(pejorative) A person who lives at low altitude - used by those living at higher altitudes
In and to the west of the Rocky Mountains, it refers to anyone from the East.
In the Appalachian region, it refers to any outsider.
In northern central Pennsylvania, it refers to people southern Pennsylvania (particularly around Philadelphia) or from New Jersey.
In Vermont and northern New Hampshire, it refers to any non-native, but particularly one from southern New England (including Massachusetts), downstate New York, or New Jersey and carries the additional connotation of someone who has recently moved to the area and would prefer that the state change to better accommodate newcomers, rather than the other way around. [1]
In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, it refers to someone from Wisconsin.
In Northern Michigan, it refers to people from lower Michigan (those below Mt. Pleasant).
In lower Michigan, it refers to people from Indiana or Ohio.
In Wisconsin, it refers to someone from Illinois.
