Redneck is an offensive term .

No it isn't! That is politically correct BS, This country was BUILT on the backs of Good Ol Boys and REDNECKS! And the origins of the term Redneck go back to the 20s and a group of workers that would not take being screwed by the owners of a mine. They stood up for themselves and wore red bandanas around their necks to show they were willing to fight the powers that be who owned the mine.  The owners made money hand over fist, yet were very reluctant to pay the workers. They fought back, and they won.

If you can catch the program on the History Channel, 'Hillbilly, The Real Story.' This program will tell you in detail where the term 'Redneck' came from. Briefly, it involved unionized West Virginia coal miners going up against the coal company thugs. This was as close to a war as you could get. The unionized coal miners wore red handkerchiefs around their necks to identify themselves. Thus the term 'Redneck.' This is a conflict that not too many people are aware of. Eventually, the US president ordered federal troops in to bring the conflict to a halt.

What person that lives in rural America with any self respect would want to referred to by that term ? That word , no matter how it started , has become a word of disrespect . You can't call black people the N - word ( look up how that started ) . You say that and black and white people have a fit .If I used it here I would be banned and most you you would be up in arms about it .  Can't say many words because of the PC BS . So why is it ok to use this word ? I think it is degrading as any of those other words . I'm not trying to start a arguement just my own opinion .

Spent well over a decade in the South and I knew many self-respecting people who referred to themselves as "redneck"... a point of pride at times.

I know a few blacks, and they use the "N" word more then any white person I ever heard :yesnod:   And I know a few whites that used the "N" word so much, they wouldn't even know they said it including my ex-wife. And she has a few black friends yet. So you can read into that one any way you want.

AGAIN??

This is a message board. Anyone can comment. It may not be what you like or want to hear. It may not be what I want to hear. The fact is that you can comment as can others. The only thing we ask is that you think about others and that you DON'T get nasty. Also, no politics.

That said, I didn't read this thread. I don't think I should HAVE to read every thread. I believe everyone here needs to think about what they say and how they say it and those that don't exactly agree with everything everyone else has to say can make comment. Just take things with a grain of salt as I don't think anyone here types everything exactly the way the are thinking it.

You've stated your opinion, and others have stated their opinions...what's the problem? Seems many on here with Redneck experience don't have a problem with it. I'm not sure why you feel YOU would be singled out if you started a similar thread about crushing cars and calling yourself a redneck??? I'm not sure why you try and label yourself as the trouble maker on the site, but give it a rest already and enjoy yourself. Life is way too short.  :brickwall: Oh... :Twocents:

Um I DO LIVE in Rural America, as do a BUNCH of my friends, in the SOUTH (Alabama) and I have called myself a redneck more than once.

AND like Was stated by TK73, in the south, being a redneck is a point of pride.  I don't think the word means what you assume it means.

I make up about half of Jeff Foxworthy joke book  :yesnod: and proud of it.  :slap:

WOW!!!  I really didn't mean to make a derogatory comment.  If I would have wanted to say something mean, I would have said "SHIT KICKER".  But I would never call myself or anyone els that.  I just thought it was fun and thought I would share.
I'm smarter than I act, But I don't act smarter than I am.
