I know there have been a few threads on the Summit exhaust system (pipes and mufflers) but what about the headers? The way I see it, ordering anything but TTI's and I'm going to have to dent up some tubes/finnagle with them to fit, but is anyone running the Summit headers? (Specifically on a big block in a 2nd gen) Comments? Also, will these (and others) clear a stock starter on a 383 in a '68?

old thread, but i put a set of summit headers in yesterday in my 69 charger 440.. pass side. hits the shock tower. have to dent it in today. hate to, because  what a tight fit. had studs for the bolts on the head. had to pull them to even get close to put them on. now, I'll have to use regular chevy  type header bolts.  close to the torsion bar, but clears.   this is on a 4 speed car.
drivers side. clears the ps top hose. hits the tip of the steering gear.  header is dimpled out for the stock starter. but just hits the Mitsubishi starter.  worried about heat. pipes run close -real close to starter.
all in all. it was a bitch. thinking about running the hookers i have laying around and using  a stock starter. but dont know. they might not fit any better, and be a waste of weekend.  could just beat the hell out of these and be done with it.    quote-summit-     fits 67 to 74 dodge charger etc- ya. like to see them install a set.    more like fits a big block on an engine stand.  they should throw in a few bandaids in the box . well, hell. what do i expect for a hundred bucks anyways.

I went ahead and got a set of Hedmans per Ron, but still have yet to see how they go in the car. . . shouldn't be much longer though!  :2thumbs:

i decided to make them fit. looked at the hookers, and they were a bigger diameter. have to save those for the gtx. did the pass side today, sunday, didn't feel like pushing too hard, ended up putting it on a bare block and heads i have laying around. tightened it down to the head. took a number nine tip on my torch, heated up the marked area. took 2 trys to get it right. used a body hammer.  guess it wasn't so bad. still have to do the drivers side.
just get so little time to work on the beast, just wish i could get more done in one shot.
