So, who felt the mid-west earthquake this morning?

It woke me up this morning at about 20min to 4am, in S.E. Wisconsin. I thought my cats were rumbling on my bed, and it woke me, but then I realized it wasn't them. I didn't give it much thought, til I turned on the news at 5:30.

I couldn't sleep last night and thought it was thunder. I didn't know what it was until the radio mentioned it this morning.

Yep, Woke me up. I thought the Ol' lady was thrashing around on her side of the bed, then I realized the noise and shaking was all around me...Hail? Tornado? About that time the bride woke up saying "what the..." I then put the pieces together and said "It's a F%&KING EARTHQUAKE    It lasted for a minute or so, long enough for me to get up,run out to the kitchen, look outside and come back to the bedroom and turn the TV on...Then I thought about all of the junk I have hanging in the rafters of the garage over my truck 
Go check it out...it's fine...lay back down...Oh shit...what about all of the cans of paint and primer on the shelf in my work shop...you know-the shelf above my Harley  The Harley  Did it get knocked over I run out to the shop to check things out.....Whew! everything looks OK...back to bed... I'm on my way out there now to check to make sure nothing shifted in the attic or any of the other shelves.

I'm about 25 Miles east of St. Louis-about 125 Miles west of the epicenter of the quake

We felt it pretty good too, woke me up pretty quickly.  I'm a little west of Chris though, so it wasn't quite as strong as what he felt I'm sure.  Woke all the kids up too, and they'll sleep through almost anything.  Just a rumbling noise and a bunch of things rattling in the house more than anything.

I guess the weird part about it all was that before it happened (and honestly before I was awake), I remember thinking that my wife had left a window open because of all the bird noises I was hearing.  They were all freaking out, and I heard them even with the windows shut.  The kids' dog - it's a poodle so I don't claim it  - threw up in its kennel also.

Haven't checked out the basement and brickwork yet, but I doubt we had any serious property damage.  Also glad to hear that Chris made it through OK.  Wonder about Allen (41husk) and some other southern IL members too.  Guess lots of places felt it pretty good besides here.

So there I was, climbing the fold-down ladder into the attic of my little workshop to see if any of the priceless collectibles I store up there had shifted out of place....when everything started shaking again 

That was at 10:11 A.M. -according to the clock in my garage - aftershock - 4.6 on the Richter scale

Did you know you can stack cop car wheels eight high and they wont fall over in a 5.4 Quake? 

Well neither did I until this morning

I'm kinda wondering about members Mopurr,Notabird and 471_Magnum-they're a lot closer to the epicenter than I am

Yuppers felt the first one here at 5:38 am according the to clock in my bedroom. Actually was a slight one about 5 minutes before that. Sounded like someone had fallen down the stairs at first. My first thought was that my boy was walking half asleep and had fallen down the stairs. Turns out was just a minor old earthquake. Missed the one later on as I was at work by that time, and don't tend to notice a little movement of the earth's surface when in a truck driving.

It woke me up and I thought it was thunder, so I passed right out. The only damage around here is the Chine Buffet down the street had the big neon sign fall off the building and smash to the ground.

Talked to a buddy of mine who was about 20 miles from the epicenter, and he was laughing. He said, "The buildings they showed with damage would have probably been damaged just as much from a good fart." IE not exactly the sturdiest of buildings to begin with.

What quake?  What states are you all in?

The earthquake was in southern Illinois. It was felt up to 350 miles to the north and around. They felt it north of Green Bay, Wi, to Iowa, Mn., Mi., etc.

Because there are less plates in the ground in the mid-west, a earthquake here is felt over a larger area then in California. They said on the news here, that a 8.5 (like they had in the 1800s in the same area when there was little population) would pretty much level the mid west. In California, a 8.5 barely gets out of the state cause of all the plates in the ground. And they say it will happen again sooner or later, as the plates in the fault zone have been dormant for about 200 years now.
