You don't always get a tracking number and insurance with USPS but you do with UPS.  Is that what you were meaning to say?

GreenMachine

You have to pay extra at USPS for both. I don't think tracking is available for overseas shipping once it gets to customs.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

As already stated, the USPS (or United States Postal Service so our terms are understood and defined) does NOT automatically issue a tracking number like UPS and FedEx does. Whenever I use the US Postal Service I specifically have to ask for Priority Mail with tracking or I don't get it. Delivery Confirmation is a seperate add on that can mean different things too.

not overseas... locally. between CA and FL

won a really good priced turning switch. Shipped supposelly on monday march 24, because needed delivered on place before Ap 1. Didn't arrived. At the end my friends had to change the air bill to sun Ap 6, BUT STILL DIDN'T ARRIVED ON ALL WEEK LONG. My friend got back to Venezuela, and now I'm without switch. There are ppl on that place to get it anyway, but now will be there for sometime untill I get it... IF SOMEDAY GETS TO BE DELIVERED.

ok... apr 11 and still nothing of something shipped supposelly on march 24. Stuff shipped from Cali to Florida.

Once I got a similar delay also from a Cali stuff, but was on very late Nov or very early Dec days and I had a tracking number. Status was "electronical notified" untill was tried to be delivered, then status changed to "attemp to deliver was failed" because my warehouse was closed. "Note left on dec 22" and then finally delivered on jan 2.

I'm having issues also with something was shipped this time with tracking but with wrong address, because a typo mistake. Then returned to sender, however sender still haven't got on his hands. That was 2 weeks ago!!!! on sender postal office apparently don't know ANYTHING yet!!!

Good luck. I shipped a package to Germany and had gotten wet and they couldn't read the delivery addy and it came back to 6 months later. I just had one go from Kansas to Mass and it took 18 days. What sucks if you have no delivery confirmation or insurance It seems sometimes the package ends up in limbo somewhere then it finally gets delivered. Some people claimed they never recieved some I sent....but that's what they stated. I also noticed if you have delivery confirmation it seems to get to the destination quicker for some reason  :shruggy: It is a good thing to have incase someone wants to be dishonest.

Even with the tracking # using priority mail, it basically will just tell you the day and city where the package was delivered unless you pay for insurance or delivery confirmation with signature which costs extra.

I ordered a shop manuel. It went priority with a tracking number. It stated on the USPS tracking website delivered on 8/30/07 and the city where it was delivered, but that was all. Still never received it and that was 8 months ago.

Right. And you never know if someone just snagged it off the porch when the homeowner was gone because most delivery companies will leave packages at the door.

Not the USPS. They have to leave in the box or hand them to you. FedEx, DHL, UPS can leave but only if it's not shipped with signature required.

Your best bet for shipping small packages is with the USPS Priority Mail and insurance. You will not get tracking outside of the US, but with the insurance there is an automatic delivery confirmation online. UPS has tracking all over the world, but it costs more to ship and the receiver gets high brokerage fees. I've shipped hundreds of packages all over the US and several countries and only had three claims of not receiving, all from Canada. When I reply with "I'm going to file an insurance claim through the federal goverment controlled United States Postal Service and they will find where the package is delivered. If you received the package, you will be arrested as this is a federal crime." This somehow comes back as "I just received it today"

Larger packages lately have been cheaper with FedEx over UPS or USPS. All have tracking but insurance and delivery confirmation costs extra. Never ship regular USPS Parcel Post unless the item is of low value and is easily replaceable.

That was somethig I didn't thought on, since nromally I allways get automatically when I pay, at least tracking number, so never asked to seller about.

yes you get, but only valid untill delivered to the local postal service, then is not more valid and out of responsability. Is logic!!!
