I say charge 'em as adults.

Leniency is for good-natured 17yo teens who get reckless/impulsive and cause property damage when they take prank too far.

There was nothing about that tape that smelled of a "rowdy prank that went a little overboard" to me.  It just looked like they wanted to traumatize the victim as much as possible from start-to-finish.

You are so right!  These are not the seventeen years old kids of thirty years ago.  I run into fourteen year olds who are hardened thugs every day. This young girl is lucky they didn't kill her or beat her into the ICU. Throw the book at them and make it stick!

:iagree: :iagree:
I seen it on CNN a few days ago. Glenn Beck's program I believe it was. Anywho they had an interview whit the sheriff and from what he was saying the girls will be charged as adults along with 2 other guys that were the look-outs. They also interviewed the victims mother and she said that her daughter had still not regained her full vision and hearing yet. Sad really. :rotz:
What I don't understand is if you are going to beat the everloving shit out of someone why video tape it and put it on the net? Obviously you are going to get caught. :slap:
Hopefully they will throw the book at these girls and maybe they will learn some lesson from it.

Prolly not.  I read where they said the girls were laughing about it and showed zero remorse.  :rotz:

Last I saw on the news, all eight were arrested and charged with battery and false imprisonment. The three teens who took the beaten girl to the second location and dumper her off are also charged with felony kidnapping. I also heard regardless, they all will get some time. They all have to stay at least 500 feet from the beat up girls house, have no contact with each other (all involved), no more internet, and stay away from the school they all were in til the sentencing. In the court  video, I didn't see none of the stupid girls laughing, but at least 2 were crying (kinda late now). And one of the stupid girls mom was telling the camera guy that "my daughter is a angel, she never does stuff like this" I'm thinking I guess that lady doesn't know much about her daughter as she should then. :rotz:

The only thing I don't get, is why the one girl getting the beating didn't just open the door and run outside. She was right there. Or, why she didn't grab that broom handle, and start swinging at everything near her.

I think all of us that are parents should grab a lesson from this so it never happens to our kids. GET TO KNOW YOUR KIDS BETTER AND KEEP A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM. STAY INVOLVED IN THERE LIVES, & KEEP THEM INVOLVED IN YOURS.  I'm raising my boys to have NO intrest in the internet unless they have a school project to do. And when they do have one, I'm sitting in the same room with them til they are done with it. If they need something looked up like a game cheat code, I usually do it for them. And they don't care. My kids rather watch tv or work on my cars with me then be on the computer. But then again, I'm raising my kids with old school values, like politeness, holding doors open for people, doing chores, gangs, drugs & drinking excessively are stupid etc. And yes, I have people yell at me for that. :rotz:

But this is not the Internet's fault . The blame rests solely on the PARENTS . If these young adults were raised correctly by the PARENTS this would have never happened . And no parent should never fool themselves into thinking that " my kid would never do something like that "  because guess what ? Your kid or kids are just as bad as anyone else's . ALL Parents claim their kids are angels . But they can't be , can they ?

:iagree:  I was 17 in 1965 and don't remember any of this kind of crap going on, especially involving girls.  There have been a lot of different forces at work over the decades that have made huge changes in young people's attitudes and not for the better.  We now have a bunch of under educated, self indulgent idiots running around.  I know there is still many good kids out there, but they're getting harder to find all the time.   :Twocents:  Bob

Apparently from what Ive heard on the news the girls doing the beating had got 2 guys to stand out side the front door to be the look-outs and to grab the girl and drag her back inside the house if she tried to run away.

I just think they need to be held accountable for the full intent of what they did.  That beat-down wasn't like smashing a mailbox.

If I was the judge, I wouldn't even wanna hear the attackers giving me some kind of bullsh-t apology now.  None of this, "I'm so sorry, I guess I didn't realize just how hurtful my behavior really was to her," etc.  That's a load of crap.  Those kids knew exactly what they were doing.

I cringed when I saw the news & a tear came to my eye.....Also was thinking what I would do to the parents of those kids if that were one of my little girls that got attacked.....truly saddens me :rotz:

No.  It most certainly does NOT.  Frankly, I'm getting pretty God damned sick and tired of everyone always blaming someone OTHER than the kids who actually comitted the crime.  It's the KIDS fault, not the parents.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

Yep. Try as they may, parents only have so much influence on their kids; they can teach them the correct way to behave but there is way too much exterior influence (yes, including TV and the internet).
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

But the Parents are also to blame you see . Had these children been raised by the Parents to respect others , to not take matters into their own hands , and to ignore things people say about you ( remember the sticks and stones saying ? ) then this would never happen . All too many times Parents today are never home. They are too busy doing the childish and immature activities to satisfy their own selfish needs. Then when the children get into trouble because their the parents never taught them right from wrong , the Parents don't want to look bad so they click on the " my child would never do anything like that " mode .People need to grow up themselves first before they have children . Being a Parent includes giving up going to a party or out to a bar drinking or any other activity you enjoy . Being a Parent you have to set a good example for children . And when they do wrong you sometimes have to be the " bad guy " punish them . Too many parents today want to be the " hip , cool parent " .

Parents have a lot of control over how their kids turn out.  But by the time it becomes apparent that a kid is that far out of control, it's already difficult/impossible to do anything about it.

And once in a while, a kid is just a psycho.

I've known a couple of them growing up.  Their parents may have been kinda mediocre, but nothing bad enough to warrant the way their kids were.

I grew up with a gradeschool kid who was so off-the-level it was scary.  The local bullies who were 14-15yo didn't even really wanna mess with him anymore by the time he was 10 or 11.  The older kids weren't worried that they couldn't overpower him or something, but they just knew better.  They could beat him up or steal his hockey sticks if they wanted to, but he was capable of literally stabbing someone in the gut with a kitchen knife in retaliation.

Psh.  You know some bleeding heart liberal judge is gonna' let these punks off with community service or some s**t like that...

Let these girls beat his ass, they did a pretty good job on the victim.

The myspace and face book community has brain washed teens into thinking this is as real as life is gonna get.  i dont think they have any other thoughts about the real world beyond internet chatrooms and the like.  But i guess when i was that age i didnt know what i wanted to do in 5 years, and had no plans of getting out of my loop of friends.  The internet just provides a wider range of friends to spread their gossip between instead of just the people you go to school with.

This reminds me of a south park episode where the class gets a new teacher Ms. Ellen and Wendy has her put in a rocket and sent to the sun.

True, but kids typically know right from wrong at that stage.  The problem is that some of them still want to do wrong things, not thinking about the full concequences of their actions.  These kids probably thought that they would beat her up, post the video on youtube, get everybody in their school to laugh about it and life would go on.  They probably never realized that within a short time, they would be sitting in a jailcell rather than laughing at home.  If the victim would have grabbed the broomhandle, they would have overpowered her and used it against her, more than likely killing her in the process.  If you bring a weapon into a fight, you have to be prepared that it may get used against you.  I had to deal with bully kids like these growing up and in truth, they will never know how lucky they were that I did not retaliate for what was done to me (I know what it is like to get beaten with ten on one with weapons).  I still have a lump on the back of my head from a baseball bat hit.  There are parts of that western KS town that I consider hell on earth and won't step foot in, not even for a hemi wingcar.  It would not suprise me that even if the victim regains her vision and hearing, that she will become withdrawn from society due to the attach (phsycological problems due to abuse).  I hope the parents of the victim take the parents of the bullies to the cleaner$ in court over this one, while the kids get some of their own medicine while rotting in jail.  Maybe then they won't be laughing so much anymore.....

I just think the teenage attackers themselves should do the time.

You can reform impulsive.  You can reform reckless.  You can even reform someone not realizing the amount of damage they're really inflicting on others.

But you can't reform sadistic.  You can't reform a grown adult who intentionally sets out to cause all the damage that they're on trial for causing.  All you can do with those people is try to contain them with the threat of a severe enough punishment.

All of you say you knew people like this growing ( I think we all have ) but I bet none of you ever heard not one PARENT stand up and say how bad their child was . None of these girls Parents even show any remorse for what their " little angels " did . When I was their age , if I did anything to get arrested for , my old man would have beat me senseless . But every one of these Girls and their Parents will become very wealthy from the Talk Show circuit and Book deals . What will that ever teach them or any other kids for that matter ? People are far more self absorbed and self righteous today. Everyone wants to point fingers and blame everything on everyone else. Not everyone can always be in the right .

Sorry to say but you lost the bet with me.  There was one kid I had personally dealt with that the parent (a father) apologized to me about his behavior after learning that his son was one of the bullies that were picking on me.  I gave his son one h#ll of a black eye in a fist fight after he kicked me at a urinal.  We both got drug into the main office and the parents were called in.  When asked why he did it, the kid said that "It is fun to harass others below you."  The kid learned quite a bit that day as his father told him that he used to be picked on alot when he was young and was ashamed that his fatherly teachings progressed to the bully form in the following generation.  He even said so far that his son deserved the black eye for his actions.  It would not suprise me if he did not get a belt whipping that day after they left the school and got home.  That kid finally left me alone after that incident.....

That is amazing and rare . I bet with today's Parents you would never hear that . Instead , his Dad would have ben trying to blame you and wanting to fight your Dad . Or sue him .  :-\

this is exactly how I felt when I viewed the video.. I thought to myself if that was my daughter, and then... well... I got extremely angry.  It was weird feeling that emotion over something that did not involve my daughter at all... but, I still felt it.
