Why don't they call it a 69-1/2 or 69-3/4 Daytona?

The Daytona was "supposed" to be a '70 model year introduction.. But, I believe MaMopar heard rumors of NASCAR's changing of the rules to increase production of street forms and decided to release it as a '69 model being that they only had to make 500 of them... This is why there are 1920 Superbirds, rule change for the '70 year...............

That was the reason holomogation rules indicated number of cars being built changed for 1970. 2 for every dealer.Is where the 1920 # came from.The 69 rules was 500 minium number had to be built and inspected in order to qualify.Charger 500s rumored to be less the jury still out on that topic

Wanna know the reason the Daytona was introduced in 1969 as opposed to '70?  It's because Glotzbach lost at Daytona in February of '69 in the C500.  Even though Glotzbach lost the race more from pit strategy than aerodynamic shortcomings, it didn't matter to Bob Rodger.  Rodger was one of those bosses who looked at an excuse as "something you tell the next company about why you got fired."

Troy is also partially right, but lets not forget who threw a fit and had NASCAR change the rule to race from 500 units to 1 per every 2 dealerships? DODGE. They are the ones who forced Plymouth to make that many Superbirds, it wasn't FORD or CHEVY or anyone else.

Well there is a rumored "Shipment List" for the 500's as well, that shows 575 VIN's. Supposedly that is. Would love to get to sit down and look that list over real good and close though.

I was thinking cause DAYTONA was enough to know exactly what you were referring to so you don't need to add the 69-1/2 part although it was a mid to late year addition to the model lineup.

Anyway much to do about nothing.

The A13 cars are the ones that defiantely shouldn't be labeled as a half year car though. considering they are more like a 1 week car.

The A11 cars could be broken up into 69 cars ,and 69 3/4 cars. Depends on which of the A11 cars your talking about.

A collection of one of each would be quite impressive though. A11 Charger 500, A11 Daytona, A12 Superbee, A12 Road Runner, and A13 Superbird.
