Hey guys, got a question. Recently Ive been having some trouble on adjusting the kickdown linkage on my 68 charger. Its a 727/440 with a Cheetah Turbo Action valve body, as it will not kickdown going down the road. With that aside, Ive had the engine apart this past winter doing a port and polish on the heads. While putting it back together, I added a 3/4 inch spacer under the carb, which is a Holley 750 vacuum sec. Ive adjusted the kickdown and every other linkage as it shows in the shop manual. The problem is that the thing shifts rediculously quick. Like its in 3rd gear before I go through an intersection. My question is could the spacer be throwing the linkage off? Can or does it need to be adjusted because of the spacer or do I need to take it off? And if I can run the spacer but have to adjust the threaded ball fitting, which way do I go? Thanks for the help guys...

The spacer can definitely affect it, try resetting it but also make sure it still operates smoothly.

IM getting prepaired to drop in a 528 stroker and found that the kick down on mine will not be useable at all due to my intake and carb setup.
so I did a little reseach and found that Manccini Raceing sells a kick down cable kit that should solve your problem.

Does the Holley carb have the correct Mopar throttle lever extension (Holley 20-7)? Without it the stock linkage won't work properly.

Keep in mind that the factory upshift speeds are pretty low. If the trans shifts early and won't kickdown you need to lengthen the top rod by threading the slotted end forward. The threaded ball fitting should be coarse adjusted using the rig pin shown in the FSM.

I wouldn't change to a cable unless absolutely necessary.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I dont believe I have the Holley linkage that you are talking about. I will definitely check into that. Also, with the Turbo Action valve body, if everything is working properly and the transmission is left in drive, will it kickdown like a stock valve body would, all the way to first gear if you were going say 30-35 mph?

Very few will kickdown all the way to low at 35 but it should kickdown to 2nd.
