Doesn't sound like that one stayed in Missouri very long        Both Towanda and El Paso, IL are much closer to the metropolitan Chicago area than they are to St. Louis.  Might explain why I only had the VIN number logged as a known car and no color/option information.

If the Wrights were the original owners, then:
1.  The car was either dealer traded or purchased by someone who travelled pretty far to get the car
2.  They bought it at a substantial discount.

Since the purchase price on that paperwork was so far below what the sticker price was, my guess is that it was purchased as a used car by the Wrights - but I sure can't say that for certain.

Thanks for posting the link though.

Towanda and El Paso are very close to Bloomington Il. During the 80's and maybe even into the early 90's there wad a green daytona in Bloomington IL with the white stripe. Has to be the same car. I also remember it being a brighter metallic green, probably after a repaint, as it looked to be in nice shape. The owner had a used car dealership on the east end of town and I saw the car there frequently usually sitting out at the side of the small building on his car lot. I finally talked to the guy when he was parked out in front of a grocery store about 1986 or 1987, I really don't remember much about the conversation other that it was brief because he seemed to be in a hurry and was probably sick of people asking about his car.
I did talk to a salesman at the dealership once though about the Daytona and he told me the car belonged to the owner and was not for sale. He told me that someone had offered the guy $15,000 for the car and the owner refused, the salesman then used the anecdote of the two fools, one to offer and the other to refuse.......

I'm pretty sure I ran across this car in the early 80's in southeast Iowa. Tried to buy the car but couldn't get anywhere with the owner. He did let me take a close look at it though. Sitting outside in the weeds at the time. Looking back I wish I would have gotten the VIN. I kept in touch every few months for a couple of years or so but never got anywhere. Would'nt even discuss a price with me. This was probably during the "missing 20 years". Car I saw was F-6, white stripe, white interior, 440, Auto with console 8 3/4 rearend. Went back years later and was told by a local it had been sold and went to Illinois around the Peoria area which sort of matches up and completes the story to where it is now. I'd just like to confirm its the same car to complete the story in my mind.

This is another F6 Green white interior and stripe daytona from St Louis MO that was a 80-s car .But again $25K and was original but hurting from being outside since the 70-s.Fellow wing car owner John TPR went and sent me pictures of XX29L9B398853

I don't remember the car being that rough. It was not pristine by any means and that's part of why I did not pursue it harder at the time. But I don't remember the dash looking like that or that big of holes in the fenders and the front end and nose still had paint on them. Not surface rust like this car. Car I'm talking about was in SE Iowa. St Louis is aways from there. Not saying it isn't possible as the car was there in the weeds for a while after I came across it before the locals say it was sold.  :scratchchin:

We may have two different cars here.
The one I knew in Bloomington was in very nice shape for the mid 80's. I'm sure the paint was not original as it was (as I remember) a bright metallic green, but looked great, interior looked good too. I just cant see the pictures above and the one I saw being the same car. I wish I would have gotten some pics and the VIN as well

:iagree: I go along with the fact that the St Louis car doesn't really fit both our our descriptions. Too rough. Your description of the condition of the car when it was in Bloomington is better than my recollection of the condition of it in 1981. Car could have been repainted & such in the time period between our sightings.  :shruggy: By bright green metallic do you mean F-6 green?

70Sbird

I really can't say since I don't have a good idea of what F6 looks like. :shruggy:
I just remember it as a bright green metallic color.

Dave, When, where were these pictures taken?? Or where did this car originate?? The car being discussed in this thread based on peoples comments I've read here and on moparts is remembered as being in better shape than the one I remember. As in only needing a repaint not a restoration. The car I remember would have required a restoration I believe. Its possible the car I remember ended up more in the condition of the car pictured. The car I saw sat there for a while after I saw it. Hard to say what condition it ended up in.

Added on aftermarket air conditioning on the rough Daytona. Correct? Now we're getting somewhere. The car I remember from back in the day had an underdash added on aftermarket air conditioner. This has got to be that car. How many F6 white interior cars with added air could there be. Does anyone know if the car still exists or where it is.

And I'd be willing to bet thats when I saw it. Sitting in wing high ragweeds. Sad. It was in Libertyville, Iowa in 1981 or so. I was back in that area in the early 90's and talked to a local who said it had been sold for somewhere around 8k. Story he told was the car went to the Peoria area. I lost track of it at that point.

nascarxx29

Good info.At the time of the 96 ad for sale price was $25K
