I just recently solved a sudden overcharging problem that made my battery fail. Solved the problem and now I'm having issues with my Mopar Performance distributor. It has the orange ECU box and is connected to a MSD 6AL box. After going for a drive I popped the hood and heard a tic-tic-tic sound. I discovered the distributor cap had a crack in it and spark was arcing to the valve cover. Replaced the cap with a new one, went for a drive, and heard a very faint tic-tic-tic. Now spark is coming out from under the new cap where it meets the casing. When the car is cold this dose not happen, only when it heats up. Do you think my overcharging issue whacked out my distributor too?

Are you sure its charging correctly?

And that the charge voltage is in range?

This is a long shot........

But if your coil is getting more voltage than it should, then it also might be producing more output voltage.

And in turn allowing it to jump gaps it couldnt before.

As a rule electricity will take the path of least resistance.

Which includes jumping through the air instead of going down the spark plug wires.

Something has happened where the path is easier to jump then go where its supposed to.

Spark voltage is really high

Spark plug wires are shot.

The distributor contact points are trash.

Ive pulled the the coil wire with the car running and watched the spark jump from the wire to the distributor
and have no ill affects on the car running.

I kept pulling it further and further untill I became a better path.... which is a different story (OUCH!!).

Anyway I would get REALLY good spark plug wires and change the cap and see what happens.

My plug wires are Taylor 8mm. I'll check the points.
