I am running a split grind K56/K58 in my '69 440 with stock rockers and pushrods. It is not that wild of a cam so it should be about the same deal I guess. :shruggy:

Forgot to mention I did get the matching valve springs.

in a word - yes you can.

now here are my questions to you

Why not go a split duration ?
What LSA are you looking to use ?
Will you be using stock lifter ?
Is it a stock 440 six pack ?
What is your end result of the car ?
Is the car an auto ?  if so what is the stall convertor ?
What are your rear gears ?

We could help you better if you provided additional info

I would say its a good idea to pull off your valve springs and check your retainer to guide clearences. That cam may have enough lift to cause you alot of problems if they stack up solid. Better to know in advance what all you will need to pull off the swap well. But just my opinion. By the way I went with the 54 grind. Was really impressed with engles attention to my cars details.

thanks for responding. didnt think i'd get an answer.      stock replacement valves and springs.
323 gears
4 speed.

sixpack rods

mopar performance stock replacement cam
sealed power pistons
stock carbs
havent fired it up yet. brand new engine. dont have the waterpump housing on yet. figured now would be the time to upgrade. heard mopar cams are old grinds. maybe made a bad decision.
buddy just built a 455 street and strip 70 lemans. got a ride in it. got to thinking. could upgrade the cam-he'll never know.  oh ya, stock 906 heads with unleaded seats.           bruce

I run the K56 in my 440 with 9.3:1 comp with their matching springs.

Call Chris @ Engle... he is more than willing to answer any questions you have about their cams

The K56 is an excellent street cam with mild gears (3.23) and a 6-pack. The Engle cams have increased lift and faster lobes which increases power. I would use that grind with your combo as it currently exists....which is basicly a stock 6-pack type rebuild with shallow gearing.

Chris's car runs very good with that Engle cam  :2thumbs:

I had it ground on a 108º CL for a nice lopey idle.....I get great vacuum as well to run my power brakes 14-15" at 750 RPM in gear.

Only been to the track a few times & ran a best traction limited time of  13.55 @ 102   Pretty good for a 4100+ lb car (fully loaded with a full spare & a crate of cleaning supplies & car show chairs ;) )
My car is more a cruiser than a race car but can hold its own on the street.....
Like Ron said, I think the K56 is a great all around choice

What's the specs on that cam?

That's a Pet Peeve of mine...not everyone has the Hughes or Engle or Comp catalog memorized...and guys post the part numbers of their cam like everyone in the world should know what it is...

*I'm thinking of putting in a new cam in my 540  ...my old one is a Crane Roller 698661 and I'm going to a 688871...what do you think*

Don't you find that maddening :brickwall:

just my take on it :Twocents:

My understanding is that when you go from an iron head to a aluminum head that you bump up the CR one point to achieve the same performance due to heat loss in the aluminum.  If Chris were to take off his iron close chambered heads and put on a set of the new Stealth heads (assuming the compression ratio would then be 10.3 to 1) would the K56 still be the cam of choice everything else being equal?

I'am asking this since many folks building a 440 now will take a look at how much it costs to properly rebuild a set of 452's and just buy a set of Stealths from 440Source.

Just 6T9 CHGR

I think you'd have to change pistons as well to raise the CR......I got the set of pistons below the "six pack pistons" because of my 915 CC heads....with open chambered heads & my pistons I think my CR would shrink to 8.3:1

Chris had Engle make it that way. I had Engle grind my K56/K58 on a 110CL.

They will grind to your specs.

oh ok... that sound more logical then :D

they grind under specs on same price ?

I like your combo!!! but maybe would go more agressive, k58/K60 with is in fact more similar to the stock MP one with more lift and 110 CL

HAHA, I'm talking like I really know what I'm talking from experience ( sorry pure theory LOL )

A bunch of us are using the K56.  Loads of torque, great idle, easy to tune.  From a dead stop - anywhere after about the 1/2 throttle point my car just smokes the tires with a 3.23 and mild converter.  So, it does well on the peel out test.  I'm actually pleasantly surpirsed to see Chris' 1/4 mile results.   :2thumbs:

This year I'd like to get to the track for some more seat time and maybe even throw on a set of slicks just for laughs.
Right now with the radials I have I have to really feather it off the line from about a 2k rpm launch.  I think the manual valve body I have helps as well...I "granny shift" at around 5200 rpm...the 3 times I went 2 years ago it felt like it still wanted to pull but I was a scared :rotz: ;)
This is a shot of me running with a 65 GTO Royal Bobcat 'vert with a 389 tri-power....I sent him home running a 13.60 to his 13.95 :)
