Ok, so I adopted a dog but he has a name that I really don't like. He really doesn't care much what you call him and he only had that name for about 5 weeks any way so I'm sure he won't be permanently scarred. He's about a year old, real easy-going, funny, and pretty hyper when he's not sleeping. He's been here since last Sunday but I just can't come up with a good name. I'm hoping you all can help - and hoping this goes better than the last time I asked for help with a name...  :nana: I'm also trying to avoid Hemi, Cuda, Magnum, or other overused Mopar names.

Gunner?, Duke?

Congrats on the new pup

Charger_Fan

Fred.

Or if you prefer something with a little more class, use my cat's name...Oglethourpe. :icon_smile_big: "Thorpedo" (if he's a fast runner) works too. :icon_smile_tongue:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Duke is a good name.  or Gus.

What was the name of the dog on little rascals?

How 'bout Goldie?  Not quite as masculine, but it looks like he's been de-nutted.

Because of his color. I'd say "Rusty"  :shruggy:

Although, I like "Gunner" too.

"Timex" if he's a good watchdog or "Backhoe" if he's a tunneler.

We named our shephard puppy "Shredder" when we got him in 1992. Little did we know that he would live up to his name. He's been an excellent "Roving security system" for many years. He'll be 16 in July, if he makes it that long. Best dog I've ever had or ever will have I'm sure.

He's a Lab - probably the worst guard/watch dog on the planet. He's barked exactly twice in a week and if you have food he'll let you steal everything in sight - but try to play with it at the same time. Luckily, he hasn't dug anything yet.

He seems like a regular, fun-loving, working guy so I think he deserves a name that matches (Jake, Duke, Max, Jack, etc.) but these fit as well:

I thought the camera made him look more red than he actually is but we were driving around yesterday and he really is red.

That's fitting actually - he pulls like one. The other dogs stop when they get wrapped up or stuck but he just hunkers down and pulls until something snaps. He's plowed over a couple of small trees and broke a limb off another already. Unfortunately, I have to keep him tied on the run because he's an accomplished fence jumper. The funny thing is, he comes back the same way. It's all a game to him so it doesn't matter which direction he's going. We have a lot more wildlife than his last home though so he has a whole lot more to chase. He has learned that some cats have claws and most aren't as excited as he is to find a playmate. I'm dreading the day when he catches up to one of the groundhogs...

Someone else suggested Ricochet and, now that he's comfortable in his new home, it's very fitting. He uses walls, furniture, and even people as springboards when he's playing. He learns quick though so he knows he can't leap over the leather couch any more.  :RantExplode:

One thing though, for a retriever, he certainly sucks at retrieving. He will chase whatever you throw but then he does a sort of "fly by" on the object and his attention goes elsewhere. As expected, he is very gentle when picking anything up and he doesn't bite down hard. It took him about four days to learn one of his toys had a squeaker - and now he's scared of it. He loves riding around in the truck but we have to work on getting out since he tries to go through the driver's door as soon as I touch the handle which generally results in a 40 pound dog in my lap firmly wedged between my chest and the steering wheel. The other dogs have harnesses and seat belts so we're going to the store today to pick up his.

I was looking at Shepherds but it seemed like the good ones were always picked out of the shelters quickly - I am a rescue type of person so buying from a breeder was out of the question. I found several that I really meshed with but two were HUGE. I'd like to get a second dog since I'm not always around and having to feed 200 pounds worth of animals wasn't appealing. It's great that you've had yours for so long and it's sad that they do get old.

I wasn't even looking at Labs but this one sort of found me. If he starts shredding anything inside we're going to have issues. :D

Troy, if he is more red in color, why not Red Barron? I have reddish orange cat with that name. It isn't a common name, so it is different.

"Elof" - named after the rescuer's grandfather. The kids all called him 'E' though.
