69 charger 6 banger

I know they didnt build to many six banger chargers in 69. Well I found one, and was wondering what it might be worth!!!???  any help!!! I am in a rush, I might grab this car if it is worth it!!

They made 462 of them (http://www.charger.bravepages.com/producti1.htm). Probably not much more valuable than a 318, but definitely rare. If in good shape, and reasonable priced, I say grab it.    Is it a three speed or auto?

I already looked at the website. I am not to sure if it is a auto or not. I dont want to bug the guy. He has no idea what he has got!! He is only asking 3500.

If it is in good, drivable shape, what is the downside? You can always install a larger motor and different transmission if and when the mood hits you. It is a great platform for upgrading! (just keep the original engine and transmission as one never knows about classic car values).

Rarity wise yes they did not make many.....desirability?  Not much

But hey its a 69!  You cant go wrong!

Yeah, i am going to go look at it in about an hour!! I will let you know. i know the Vin is XP29B! So I will take it down on some paper!! He started at 5000, I talked to him for a couple minutes and he went down to 3500. So I will see what happens! My buddy might grab it, as long as some one who fixes it gets it. That all that matters to me!

Any solid Charger for that price is a no brainer for sure. As Chris said, even though it's rare, it's not going to be too desireable, especially now that it doesn't have it's drivetrain. I'd just treat it like any other project at a good price. snag it, fix it up, put whatever drivetrain you want in it, and have fun!

Yep, they are rare to find and even rarer if completely orginal.  Not many survived intact as alot of them were either converted into clones or parted out for big block projects.  The key to the 1969 /6 Charger is an SE edition.  Only five were made and I used to know where one of those was (up in Washington state).  If you can get one of those, let me know if you want to sell it later on.  You might want to consider returning it back to orginal someday as you would have rarity/oddity on your side when you show it off.  I know that by experience with my XH29C0G.  The good thing about the /6 Chargers is that you can cruise alot longer in one on the same tank of gas than you can with a big block, although it is a bit sluggish.  The /6 was an almost indestructable engine too.  With the way gas prices are going up, I would think that the economy class Chargers might be a wise investment later on.....

The cool thing about 6 cylinder cars (and 318's too) is that they were generally owned by older folks who didn't abuse 'em, so are, generally, in good shape....

Until they got sold to a younger guy who started to hot rod them, as they thought that was all they were good for.  They would pull the drivetrain, put in a big block combo and then run it as hard as they could.  I have yet to meet an orginal owner of a /6 Charger in the second gens.  I know of a XH29C0G that was given to a guy who hot rodded it to death, then had it crushed in the mid 80s because he did not think that they would be worth much (it was shot by that time).  He tried to buy mine but no deal......

It would be interesting to put an aluminum block /6 into one, then put the hyperpack 4-bbl. induction system on.  I had thought about doing that with a 318 Charger body that I had sitting around.  Won't win at the /6 drags, but would be fun to drive.   BTW-  Is your 3-speed Charger a 1968 by chance?.....

No Chad it is a 69 3 on the tree.....my first 69 charger had it since 82.

Danny.... I am so glad that you guys watch out for me.  yes R4 would be nice to match the other 2 but I am kind of a mind of like the daytona any color is fine I would even grit my teeth and buy a dark green colored one...but this might be an instance of when we would do one  that would not be the original color when done.

Most of the ones I have found (out in the fields, car shows, internet, etc.) either have had an engine swap or are missing the drivetrain.  I have only seen (either pictures or viewed by my eyes) four that had the orginal engine in place (a 68 up in SD, a 70 in Cal. that is now a datona clone and not orginal anymore, a 70 in Tx and mine).  I am sure that there are more original ones out there that I have not seen or heard of, but not hundreds.  I have heard far more stories of ones that got cut up than ones that survived, from people who junkyarded back in the day.  Still, most /6 Chargers lived hard lives (mine did time in Iowa so it has rusted underneath badly) and they did not have very good survival rates, at least in the midwest.  People just thought of them as they would a 4-door dart: transportation.  I discussed that once with Wayne Wooten (TDC) when I had registered my XP29C0G a few years ago, there was only one other one like it in the registry out of 181 made. A few more have popped up since then, but the number is still under ten known last time I checked.  Even if ten XP29C0G did happen to survive, that is a suvival rate of only 5.5% in 38 years, which is much lower than other Charger models......
