Hey, I'm sure some of you remember the costom charger fiberglass hood I had made with the challenger TA scoop installed. I love the hood to death. But It brook while driving 156 mph. Well the company that made it told me to FU## off so I tried to fix it my self.

I did a great job, added metal, and made it real smooth again. I used a peace of 2X2 on each side to make sure the hood was straight. Well I made it to freaking straight. It broke at the hood pin holes, and from there forward the hood is higher than the fenders about 3/4 of a inch high on the nose.

Is there a way to bend the fiberglass down with out breaking the hood? A new hood is going to run me around 850 deliver, so anything cheaper than that is an option.

Thanks Mike

terrible one

Aww dude that SUCKS. What company made it for you? If they aren't backing their work I don't want a damn thing to do with them. :icon_smile_angry:

There are no shortcuts in that repair, if you want it to be right!! needs to be grinded down in the crack, to almost nothing. Then get the shape right , by bolting stringers on, on the outside. In that wat you can put the hood on, to see that it fits. When that is done, and everything fits fine, repair, like it was a boat, from the inside. When that is cured, and hard, take the stringers off, and grind down to the fresh fiberglass, from the outside, and repair from that side. When cured, grind flat, fill the holes you made to hold the stringers, and prep for paint :2thumbs:
Remember to grind at least 4 inches on each side of the crack, to ensure proper bonding.
I think the only way to avoid this to happen again, is to move the pins furter forward. There is a substantial ammount of lift in that lip, doing 150 mph +!!!!
Good luck

Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

Ya, i would cut the hood into where it broke the first time, and grind every thing smooth . Then take 2 pieces of 2x4 and put them up to the sides of an original hood and mark along the contor of it, then use a jig saw and cut along the line.   And then screw the top pieces to the top of the broke hood,  and glass the bottom side. Be carefull to not glass over the screwheads or use to much MEK it'll warp the hood and never be strait again.

Hold up.....you mean you were only doing 156 mph & the hood broke?   The company should be ashamed of themselves for providing you such a cheap product!

Thanks for the in site!!! I can't belive I'm thinking of tearing the hood apart again. When I did it, I rented a garage at my old apartments, Couldn't make that big of a miss in my garage that is attached to my house, I sure the fiberglass dust would work its way in.  All I did was the fiberglass and metal reinforcement and then gave it to a friend of mine who did all the body work on top and painted for $100.  :2thumbs:  I think I will cut off the reinforcements and grind down the fiberglass, to where the hood flex's aging. Put it back on the car lay some glass on the top side again while holding the hood to the right shape. Once its cured, I will pull it off, and do the bottom side.
