Car flirting – find love at the wheel
The Dailymail UK  12th December 2007
Being single has its merits. No, really! You can sleep on either side of the bed. You get to hold the remote control and never have to watch Bolton hold Sunderland to a nil-nil draw. You can even eat standing up over the sink, wearing just your saggy old granny pants.

Still, some women tire of this idyllic existence and yearn to find a partner to spend the rest of their lives with. If you're one of them and are struggling to find the man of your dreams, you could be looking in the wrong place. Internet dating? It's been done. Speed dating? So 1998. Singles night at the supermarket? Like, get with it, grandma.

These days if you want to find true love, the place to be is in your car. You've probably experienced car flirting already. Picture the scene: you're stuck in traffic when a hottie pulls up next to you. After a quick look to check he's a) as fit as you first thought b) not driving a Skoda c) has his fingers on the steering wheel, as opposed to up his nose, you begin to exchange glances, then smiles, then maybe a quick hair flick before the lights change.

It's becoming so common, hire company Avis even carried out its own 'car flirt' survey – and the results were staggering. The survey found a whopping 72% of women and 65% of men admitted to a bit of vehicle flirtation. In a statement, Avis said it seems we're "a nation of shameless car flirts guilty of getting a little amorous behind the wheel when going about our daily business". Quite.

However, car flirting does have its downsides. Just when things get interesting, the lights change and your commuter crush drives off into the sunset. But no longer! Two UK companies have decided to cash in on the craze by starting up their own car dating websites. Both Motorflirt and Drive To Romance allow you to hook up with people you've seen while stuck in traffic. With Motorflirt, if you see someone you fancy in the next car, you can text in their registration number and if they're registered, they'll put the two of you in touch, all while hiding your mobile phone number so it can't be seen. Drive To Romance lets you leave messages on its boards and may even be able to put you in touch with an admirer even if you only got part of their registration number.

And before you worry that all this flirting could lead to a fatal lack of concentration behind the wheel, both websites have very clear safety message and insist all users pull over to text or record car registrations.

Still, if you're driving a banger, it might not be something you have to worry about. According to Avis, 65% of women would only flirt with someone in a more expensive car than theirs. Car flirters are such a mercenary lot!

Wow. For once I have nothing to say, except to say I have nothing to say. :eek2:

Those two beetles are sharing a set of wheels.  (I wonder if the top one is just a 'glass shell.)

That bit about the women & more expensive cars is predictable and amusing.  The chicks I know are always insisting those kinds of perceptions aren't true about them.

I was at a car show and walked away from my car to look at the other cars and when I walked by my car there was a 5' tall 400lb. woman sitting behind the wheel of my car. I rushed over to my car and said please get out of my car, I told her at car shows you're not supposed to touch peoples cars  or get in them. She said she didn't think it would hurt anything and ask if she could drive it. She told me if I let her drive it she would take me out for dinner and drinks tonight.

OK Mike, does this count? This is as close as I've come! :eek2:
