Thought I would forward this pic and story to you.  This is a picture of a customers house, a house that he bought 7 months ago, that is now being considered to be condemned.  The house is 41 years old.  The mud and water came through the walls.  NOT covered by anyone's insurance.  the restoration construction company said that living in the house is unsafe and the whole house may need to be taken down.  NOT covered by insurance.  The cave in moved the house in such a way as to make the whole house unstable.  They are gonna take a really, really, close look at this one.  a structural engineer is going to determine if the house is to be condemned.

Hydrostatic pressure is the official word.  Water built up and caved it in.

They should have torched it before contacting the insurance company.

Unfortunately a lot of people in Missouri are going to be dealing with that stuff too.

I've heard of this happening  if your basement fills up with water and you pump it out to fast having the walls cave in due to water also being outside. Sometimes its better to leave the basement full of water for a few days to let the water table lower itself outside of the house walls.

I believe that the home owner is completely screwed.
I don't think he can afford all the repairs needed to save his house.
I think he is going to just walk away and leave this problem for the bank.

Damn shame... I turned in my estimate for the excavation and drainage upgrade.
The masonry guy gave a bid, he is still waiting for a price to jack up the house
and reset it on the foundation.

If you add it all up, I don't think he can pay that bill without help from the insurance Co.

Did the insurance consider this as flood damage and the owner didnt have flood insurance?

I don't know if he had "flood" insurance or not. The adjuster told him that if the water came
over or under the walls he was covered. NOT if the water came through the wall.

If any of you have bulging or bowed basement walls, get it checked out quickly. your insurance
company WILL NOT cover you if this happens.
