This blew my mind when I saw this tonight. I saw this on the Milwaukee, Wi. Craig's list tonight. I guess real deals are still out there. I just did a copy and paste of the ad, and saved and uploaded the pics. I didn't feel the need to post the link as the car is already sold.

1965 Dodge Coronet, 426 WEDGE 4 speed, 2 door hardtop - $2750

Date: 2008-03-22, 3:33PM CDT

1965 Dodge Coronet 2 door hardtop, original 426 WEDGE 4 barrel, it is not a HEMI, but a 426 RB big block, with its original 4 speed, 8 3/4 3.23 suregrip. Has a mild cam, headers, aluminum intake, Holley carb, original intake/carb are included. I also have a cross-ram intake & carbs off an older 413 that I will include if I get my asking price, if not, it will be available separately.

Nearly rust free, came from Arizona in 2001, could use trunk center section, all body panels are very straight and solid, good fit and finish. Has a fiberglass 'Super Stock' style hood scoop, I have an original flat hood that goes with. Car is white, with a black interior, bucket seats with center console. Interior is near perfect, the top of the rear seat back is split from sun damage.

The car has some documented race history from the late 60's & early 70's on the West Coast & in the Southwest. But the car is not a stripped down drag car.

The car has been sitting inside for over 5 years, it starts, but it should be gone through before being driven, brakes checked, etc..

Asking $2750, or best offer, or trade for a 2wd pick up truck, prefer Ford, Dodge or Chevy. I don't have the time, or the interest to enjoy this car. Priced well below market value for a quick sale, I need a work truck asap. You could buy this car, clean it up a bit and triple your money, seriously.
Serious replies only please. I live in Waukesha, but the car is being stored at a friends shop, in Milwaukee.
These photos are nearly 6 years old, but the car is virtually untouched since then.
Thank you for looking, and Happy Easter.

CAR HAS BEEN SOLD, THANKS!!!

Must be a craigslist day for lucky people.....

There was another steal on the local cl, but not nearly as good as the 426 SW:

1996 Mustang GT Limited Edition

Look guys, here is the deal. This is a limited edition mustang with only 43000 miles on it. Been garage kept and never been in the rain. Mint condition. you may be asking why so cheap so here it is. I went thru a bad divorce and was ordered to sell everything and split it with the ex including this but wasnt told i had to get market price. the first 200$ or 100$ and 2 1/2 gal of jack daniels black gets it, it has a clear title and ready to go. I will miss it but the ex can kiss my a--. thanks for looking.

I saw it five minutes after it posted, but don't want to get tied down with another car in storage......

I try to keep a close eye on craigslist for this type of stuff but sometimes I forget and go days without checking. The last good deal I got was the '68 grill, fender and front valances for a song.

Here is the bad thing I have found with using Craigslist.

In only a couple years of using it I find it is amazing how much local stuff I have found. There are things on there that I would not have thought or cared one bit about. However, now that I have seen it, and it is close, the deal is way too good to pass up. The moral of the story is, if you look long enough you'll eventually find what you were never looking for in the first place.  ;)

I've heard of people not knowing what they have, but this guy's ad sounds like he has at least a little sense... I would have given him $10-15k easy on the spot - Max Wedge cars bring huge bucks, esp. when you start talking about "documented" race history - I could have put like $5k in the car and flipped it for $50k to two collectors I know that eat up Max Wedge cars...

1969 Dodge Charger R/T - 426 HEMI/4 speed/Track Pack

It was a 426 street wedge and not a Max wedge. There is quite a difference but still a smokin' deal on a 426 wedge 4 speed car.

Although, if I told my dad he would say keep that 426 wedge "station wagon engine" and give me a 383 4bbl anyday. Back in the mid 60's he had 1963 Sport Fury with a 383 4 speed and it would kill his buddies 1964 Fury with a 426 4 speed every time. One night dad was with his friend in the '64 and they got beat by a 421 Pontiac. The next weekend the guy with the 421 was making crap out of the dad's '63 Sport Fury. Dad told him to come for a ride and we will see if you want to race any more Plymouth's. The guy got a ride, the race never happened, and the guy never made fun of the little 383 any more.  :D

That's funny because my dad gives a similar report on a car my uncle used to have.  He can never recall the exact year and model only that it was an earlier 60's Dodge and it had a 383.  Dad has always thought it was an oddball of some kind because it says it was the fastest damned 383 you ever saw and shut down a lot of cars with bigger engines.  I'm sure it had more to do with tuning on all of them than it did being an "oddball" but it still makes for nice bench racing with my dad.

694spdRT

Dad always claimed that the 1963-64 383's with the factory dual point distributor were giant killers in the lightweight Plymouth's. There was one shop that could tune his car right and it would make an unreal difference. Just to give you an idea, he used to take it to Union Grove dragstrip and consistently run the quarter in the low to mid 13's which was pretty impressive for the early 1960's. The car was totally stock with a 4 speed and 3.23 gears.

Dad talks about that car all the time. The closest street race he had was with a strong running 1965 Olds 442 that had a 345 horse 400, 4 speed, and 3.55 gears. They were even through 1st gear, shifting to 2nd the 3.55 geared Olds pulled half a car on the Fury, by 70 mph the Fury was bumper to bumper and gaining through third gear, dad hit 4th gear and the Fury pulled away as the Olds ran out of steam.

Dad had quite a group of friends that owned Plymouth's at the same time. There was dad's 1963 Sport Fury 383 4 speed, a 1964 Fury 383 4 speed, the 1964 Fury 426 Street Wedge 4 speed, and, the top dog, a 1963 Fury 4 door that was special ordered with a 426 Max Wedge and automatic.  :o
