Want my 69 charger to sound like this video. Which exhaust system should I get??

Most the video above but also like the sound in these videos also:

I love the sound that flowmaster has. Everyone says that the 40 serie is the loudest, but which serie is the second loudest??
And how much slower is the flowmaster exhaust compared to dynomax??? Will a "normal" guy like me even notice if I would have a flowmaster  or a dynomax?

I just want the sounds as in the video(s).

MoParMetal

i like the flowmaster 50 big block series.
i can not stand the 40 series.
two of my friends have them and i hate riding with them. TOO LOUD.
check out the sound clips on their website.

the new super 44s are the loudest.

I like the sound but not if it gets too high inside the car.

You can insulate the interior to cut down on the noise. I have the Super 44's on mine and it is pretty damn loud if you are in a confined space.

Brock Samson

my Charger is plenty loud with the flowmasters and three inch exhaust, but what's funny is that my 440 powered motor home with it's single exhaust is ALOT louder, i feel sory for folks as i pass them under power...

Dynomax Ultraflows are excellent mufflers....no interior resonating and they sound fantastic wide open.  :2thumbs:

Does not seem like dynomax ultraflow is as deep as the flowmaster and I want the deep sound.

Like this video. (40 mufflers) : http://youtube.com/watch?v=Hu8_uxk4hiM&feature=related

Don't trust a Video soundbite....try and listen to them in person. The Utraflows have a deeper rumble than the flowmasters which sound tinny and annoying in real life.

Flowmasters are also very restrictive and a sure way to slow  your car down  :brickwall:

i took a chance and ordered the pypes 2.5 dual exhaust system with race promufflers and im using hedman headers im hoping it sounds good anyone else tried the pypes system ?

The muffler shops all seem to like the Flowmasters and the dynos all seem to like the Dynomax.  Since only one is interested in the profit factor... :shruggy:

Ok wait in another thread you wanted more HP out of your 440 now you are worried about sound......?

Ummm sorry which do YOU REALLY WANT.....?  Sorry but Dynomax not Flowmasters.......  If you really dont care then put a 318 in your care it will sound nice and you dont have to spend the $$ on anything....

Sorry but this is just  :slap: to me....

bordin34

I have the 40 series on my mild 400 with headers, h-pipe, 2.5" pipes. They do sound loud and sweet like Lightning McQueen under WOT, but there is a constant drone no matter how little throttle is given. It gets annoying after a short while.

Should I get 2,5" or 3"??? That should not be so hard?

There is a reason that I am asking all these questions.

I really don't know what fits best/sounds best/quality etc.

X pipe or H pipe?

Isnt H pipe deeper?

Whats best?

Well I am reading over at moparts the guys there LIKE the SOUND of the H over the X.  However on dyno the X is making more HP.... Your call seems you may want the sound? :shruggy:

I have NEVER heard that Flowmasters are also very restrictive and a sure way to slow your car down. (We all have different taste and opinions)
All of the shops I have talked to says that this is not true, so hard to deside here. If it would be true, if I would gain 5 hp or loose 5 hp, would not matter to me. Im not gonna
use my car as a racecar or drag.

Tarzan, just because you never heard of it doesn't mean that it's not true. I've seen it in person....at the track....with my own two eyes.

A few examples :

(1) 68 Charger running 11.70's with 3in flowmasters dumped at the axle. The guy pulls the Flowbastards and runs an 11.0  :icon_smile_big: Shaving 7 tenths off your ET if freakin huge.....that's easily 60-70 horsepower.

(2) 68 Coronet with a blown 440 runs consistently 3-4 tenths quicker with no exhaust than he does with straight pipe and 3in Flowmasters. He is a friend of mine and a member here.

(3) 69 Charger 493 pump gas build. The car runs the exact same times with no exhaust that it does with a full 3in system using an x-pipe and ultraflows. Given that the exhaust system weighs 80 lbs the engine is making more power with the exhaust on than it does on open headers. This is no wimpy build either....that motor made 630hp on an engine dyno.

Bingo !!!!   :2thumbs:  You want more power but want to cripple the motor with a crap flowing muffler just to achieve the sound  :coocoo: :spank: :haha:

Sorry man but you're going in the wrong direction. There are Posers and then there are real Performance enthusiasts. Which one are you ?  ;)

For a 500hp build i would be looking for a mandrel bent 3in system with 1 7/8in primary tube headers and the Dynomax Ultraflow mufflers.  :2thumbs:

TTI makes the nicest fitting headers and exhaust and if you go with an aftermarket cylinder head that has angled plugs you will be much happier.  :yesnod:  Very few Headers are designed for an aftermarket (angled plug) head and changing plugs, routing wires or just getting them to clear the plugs is a nightmare. Most have to be modified with a  :smash: just to install the plugs.  :P

I already have headers so im not gonna buy that before later but I need the exhaust and mufflers.

Summit has an economical 3in pipe kit that is mandrel bent (low restriction) and fits from the headers back. These systems are designed for a Hooker "Supercomp" header so if you have something else there might need to be some modifications made. These are 1/2 the price of a TTI system and very good value. It won't fit as nice and might need a little tweak depending on your headers but that's no big deal, inmo.

Ok, so Dynomax ultraflo ss or the ultraflo welded? Just looked at their website and found 2 ultraflo`s. Which?

The welded Ultraflows are fine  :2thumbs:

You will LUV the sound of these...especially with 3in pipes. Nice deep rumble at idle and killer roar when you drop the hammer. The best part is you can cruise for more than half an hour without developing a headache.

There are many members here who have installed the Ultraflows and many have replaced flowmasters. I've yet to hear one negative comment. Most if not all have noticed a nice performance increase as well.

Ron

Ps. As far as your engine mods are concerned, i would start by installing this exhaust system first before ripping into the motor. If your current exhaust is too small and restrictive this upgrade will be a pleasant surprise.

Super 40 - Two Chamber High Performance Mufflers

              OR

40 Series Delta Flow -Two Chamber Mufflers

all know is they are FLOW MASTER 40 series . they were bought new in the late 90s if that hepls . my friend had them on his 69 SS 396 NOVA for a few months he said he didnt like them coz they were to loud . granted he didnt have any floor insolation and the exhaust dumped out infront of the rear end . so i bought him a pair of DYNOMAX mufflers in 2001 and tradded him for the FLOW MASTERs .
like i said they soud fine to me when im driving . just hear a nice rumble of the exhaust .

didint read all the other replys but if you like flowmasters then by all means put them on your car,  the one nice thing about flowmasters is they seem to bring decent money used when/if you get sick of that wide open throttle scream.  if you want to get rid of that horrific low speed drone then run the exhaust all the way to the rear.      i had the 50s on my roadrunner with 3 iinch exhaust and droped infront of the rearend. i had it like this for a few years, but if we went very far in the car my wife would wear ear plugs   :shruggy:.     im sure you wont notice a seat of the pants differeance between any decent muffler unless the system is totally screwed up.   et at the track might be different however.
