Does this sound like a Craigs List Scam....?

So here is the story.....
I go and check out this street bike for a very reasonable price. The bike has very low mileage on it.
I get there and the bike does not start so the owner tries to charge the battery with a trickle charger but the battery is just shot. BTW it is 15 degrees out and another major blizzard is taking place here in NE Ohio so I give the battery thing a benefit of a doubt.
Then the seller informs me that the bank has the title and that he will not have the title until Monday. :scratchchin:
So I am wondering....why list the bike on Craig's List if you do not even have the title as of yet?
Owner tells me that he has 2 mortgages and blah blah blah bills and that is why the bike is so cheap.
I do not know .... sound fishy...?
The seller tells me that he will have the title and the bike running on Monday.
I never even made an offer but I did tell him that I want to hear the bike run and that I will bring cash to negotiate on Monday as long as all goes well on his end.
I really like the bike but believe it or not this is the 2nd street bike I looked at this week that the seller did not have the title as of yet...WTF?
What do all of you think? :shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy:

I say just wait and see what happens monday.... I have put things out for sale before only to find out that I misplaced the title... So I have to get a new one. Happens to the best of us :D

Go back Monday when he has the title.  I dont think its a scam, I think he probably just got ahead of himself listing it and didnt have his sh*t together.

BMOTOXSTAR

Yeah,
I want to give him the benefit of a doubt.... I guess my gut instinct tells me to see what happens Monday. He really did not seam that bad of a person but as they say Once Bitten Twice Shy.....
He mentioned something that maybe the bank would need me there when he gets the title but was not sure.

:iagree: the guy probably didn't expect calls so quickly. Maybe a newbie to internet advertising?  :shruggy:

He did seem honest and I called him the first day he listed.
Man, I hope that this works out.
The bike is a 1999 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100cc with very low miles for $3,500

It doesn't sound like a scam, just sounds like a guy who can't find the glasses that are sitting on his forehead.

Well, if he wants you at the bank when he gets the title, the loan is probably not paid in full.  He'll use your money to get it free and clear, then sign over the title to you.  Bring cash and don't part ways until you have the title in hand.  Bob

I've bought 3 or 4 cars, trucks, and toys over the years, that involved meeting the seller at a bank or finance company, as they understandably wanted their money before
they would stamp their "lien satsfied" on the title...he's probably legit...just a little disoriented! ::)

I don't think a scammer is gonna let you come over to his house.

Same here.  I've bought a truck and a boat that way, and I've also sold a boat that way.  I showed the buyer the payoff on the boat, left the boat with him, took a check from him to my finance company and was done.   This is pretty normal.
