a couple questions: front Licence Plates and White Wall Tires...

first the licence plate question,..
i recently got a fix it ticket for not having a front plate,... this really annoys the crap out of me because I don't like the look on most cars...
I feel like the meter maid dude person was just giving me a hassle ticket cause i was parked legal and he couldn't ticket the car...
Do you guys run front plates?... and what are the regs in your area?...

next up, White wall tires.
Back in the day they were the norm but i haven't seen any on mopars in ages...
up till about 1966 they came on nearly every new car out of detroit and even Jag XKEs had them...

I guess luxo barges used them up till the mid '80s, and if you look at the old school pics of the assembly lines there are plenty of Mopes and even chargers sporting them, though i suppose some were red line tires... even Hot Wheels had them...
Anyone have pics of Chargers with W.S.W. tires?... or running them even?...

opps how'd that slip in there..  :shruggy:

Heck, even hemis had 'em..  :icon_smile_wink:

I'd like to see a bone stock second gen like Neal Js' with white wall tires at a show,.. it would really stand out and I'd make a special effort to get pics,.. even if it was medium bronze....

You don't need a front plate in WA....IF you've got collector or YOM plates....

Narrow whites look OK with factory wheel covers, but with aftermarket wheels, the pinner whites look too "custom" or lowrider style (well, I think they look good on Keystones)......unless that's the look you're going for.....which I'm OK with, as I dig early lowriders and "bellflower" style customs, with Astros or chrome reverses and spider caps.... :2thumbs:

kansas does not require a front plates at all ,  missouri doesnt if you run classic plates correct year plates from back in the day. :Twocents:
GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

Well in ND you are supposed to have the plate on .. I have a 2000 Firebird Trans AM convert.  NO WAY i am putting it on!!!   I ALMOST got pulled over but UMMMM i speeed up VIOLENTLY and well never got caught......

I hate the look of a front plate on most cars.  RUINS the lines and look.

FEE is usually only $20.

DONT LIKE WHITE WALL on most but is classy on some oldies.. meaning to me 40-50-early 60's cars.

In CA you are required to have "MATCHING" front and rear license plates unless the car was manufactured in a way a front plate can not be accommodated.  In other words if you car did not come with or had a mounting bracket made to mount a front plate CA will not force you to make a mount for it.  Again this does not stop the cops from writing you a ticket, they will tell you to "tell it to the judge".

CA does not put front plates on motorcycles.

Meter maid wrote you a ticket for not having a front plate?
I don't think parking enforcement in CA can write you a ticket for anything other than a parking violation.
Vehicle code violations are handled by the Highway Patrol or City PD.  I think the Sheriffs department can too but since they would not get any money out of it they wouldn't bother.

Some in CA that don't want to install or run a front plate attach it to the sun visor and flip it down when they see the cops or park.  Don't know if that is legal or not.  I went to a car show last year and the CHP was standing at the entrance writing ticket to everyone that did not have a front plate. Talk about pissing off the participants.

As for the white walls.
Depends on the rim and hub cap look.
In the past when I bought tires with white wall I would have them mounted facing inward.

Iowa cops are assholes about front plates and window tint.  Ive had several tickets for both in the past.

As far as whitewalls go, they look great on the right car.  All original 73-74 SEs especially look good with them (and factory hubcaps too!)

When i lived in OH, you had to have front plates. And when i put the plate on the front of my 72 firebird , it looked awful ,so i zip tied it to the back of the passenger side sunvisor. i don't know if it was legal, but i passed alot of cops and never got pulled over.

rav440

no front license plate in PA. either , but i do have a 1973 dealer plate from HONOLULU HI. on the front

ChgrSteve67, meter maids in CA can write tickets for no front plate.  A guy I work with got a ticket right here in our office parking lot a few years ago for no front plate.  It was a meter maid who wrote the ticket.

I have personalized plates and keep them both on the car.

NC does not require a front plate. I have my '68 N.C plate on there for the aesthetics. I did run white walls on mine for a few months after I bought it. I like the way it looked. I still have those wheels and tires except for the hubcaps. I sold those last summer.

News to me,  but I'll be the first to admit I don't know much.

Guess  I'll stay away from the MM.

Honestly I hate parking in metered parking spots or places that have time limits.
I try not to go into the main part of the city or downtown unless I absolutely have to.

Shouldn't be able to ticket a parked car for something like that. I should be able to park my car, remove both plates, and not get ticketed assuming I put them back on before I start driving again. I would fight it.

Have to have 2 plates in Ct, but I've always only had one for the last 35 years and never had an issue.   My Charger has the 1969 plate on the front.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Not sure about a '70 but on a '68 and '69 the front plate mounting bracket is easily removed. And if it wasn't there, you might have a little more luck in convincing them you don't need one since there's no factory location to attach it to.

In Oregon we have to run two plates but only if you're using the car as a daily driver (regular issue plates) or have custom plates. If you get the state-sanctioned collector plate you only run one on the rear.

Front plate is usually dependent on the laws in your particular state. As far as the whitewalls, my Charger still has 'em... from 1985..... but not much longer (got repop'd bluelines for the steel wheels/hubcap combo, and a set of raised white letter radials mounted on Magnum 500s for general driving purposes)

In Ontario, Canada it's very mandatory to have a front plate but since I have a 67 right now and they have the recessed spot in the bumper for a plate, I'd want something there anyway.
As for your big bronze Hemi whitewalled 69 pic, no one has ever proven that car had anything more than Hemi door badges Brock.  :nana:
