How do I tell if my leaf springs are rebuildable?

I'm trying to find some OEM type leaf springs new that I can just bolt on without any modifications. But I haven't found any. My local driveline and spring shop said if they are able to be rebuilt he can rebuild them for $75 a side and paint them. To understand what he's telling me what can I look for on the springs when I get them off so that I know this guy is for real or that he just doesnt want to do the job. The previous owner of my 73 has traction bars and coil over shocks on the rear and there is no pinion snubber. So I'm betting the springs are worn and he didn't want to fool with them. I'm about to do several applications of oil before I try to remove the bolts and let them soak a few days before I start. By the time I get my brake parts back from the blaster, and have the seals in the axle I should be ready to take off the springs.

71/72s are basically the same than 73/74. Just change the guide stud fro a bigger one. AND if doesn't have the front bushing, you can mount the right one. If not, just change it to match with your front hanger and bolt

I have 71/72 asembly kind ( noticed latelly ). Didn't change the stud, justy tighted enough and voila. I haven't had any problem.

HOWEVER your car still could it be assemblied with the 71/72 bushing!!!! I think that change came out on lates 73

I worked in a Spring shop for a couple years and what he will do is take your spring pack apart , check the main leaf for any fractures or extensive rust that may cause a weak point and most likely re - arch it. Then put new leafs in and new center bolt . When he has it apart is the time to tell him how high you want the car to sit and if you want to go with the Hemi Leaf setup .

I would stay away from re-arching, they will gradually relax back to how they were.  Most spring shops will admit this outright.  They usually will suggest adding a leaf.  Just buy a new set, you can get them for 125 a side I understand.  The new ones have the correct steel straps.

The only thing with this option is you get Chinese recycled steel that relaxes in a year or 2 but hey it's just how it goes .

So who has the best ones on the market? And are all imported?

I see that Mopar performance has some advertised in the 'Mopar Performance' magazine for 200 a set or so.  They usually offer good quality but I've never tested the springs.  The fellow that suggests that after market springs are sub-standard quality might be right however.  I haven't actually tried the springs, but, going back, I would have gone this way instead of re-arching.

The rearched main  spring most likely won't sag if the other leafs that support it are new . That is why there are multi leaves . For strength .
As far as the MP springs , I wouldn't touch them . Made in Mexico .

With all the crappy cheapo replacement leaf springs out there, you might just wanna pay up for a real new spring set from a spring specialist.  Like maybe from Eaton, Detriot Spring, etc.
