I was scanning back issues of my magazine collection, and in the Dec/Jan 1991 issue of Mopar Muscle, I came across a picture of a 1968 Super Bee convertible show car. I scanned the picture and posted it below. I can't remember ever seeing the car before, and I have never read anythin about it. Can anybody give me some history on this car? I think the hood blackout treatment is really cool. Check out the side pipes! Does this car still exist today?

that's the one...

i think it was an auto show car,.. there were many of those made, usually one offs that were updated from year to year like the daroo II
supercharger, diamante, but a couple were one year only cars like that convert Bee.... there were also the rapid transit show cars and scat pack cars of 1970-71 too,.. seems like in '72 all that stopped...
maybe time we had a thread for just these cars eh?..  :shruggy:

A convertible goes against what a SuperBee is supposed to be......it just isn't right man....

Plymouth had the Road Runner convertible... Why NOT a Super Bee Convert?

Because there are more "upscale" models that offered 'verts'.....IE, Coronet R/T's.....OK sure, Plymouth made RR 'verts....still doesn't make sense....if ya think about it, as they had Satellites and GTX's to use as a 'vert base. But probably because the RR proved so popular (moreso than the Super Bee), Plymounth thought it a good idea to offer a 'vert....(don't get me wrong, I dig 'em)...

The whole premise of SuperBees (and RoadRunners) was to take a basic, stripped down car and put a big engine in it to whoop up on the competition.....by adding a bunch of heavy options, you're (Chysler) going against the original concept and ya lose sight of the intended purpose......

Woooha.  I loved my 91 Transport  and have a 98 Transport now.  Those vans were super cool. My 91 was hit 5 times and never had a mark, the cars just bounced off the super strong composite panels.  Madador yes, but leave those GM vans alone please.   :slap:   :Twocents:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Not ugly, just a little bit ahead of it's time.   :shruggy:  No?  Hey I tried.

Whatever happened to that 1968 Charger Convertible. I mean I am sure there are topics on or in here somewhere, but story goes, there was a guy that worked in Chryslers or at that time Dodges Design area or used to work in that area & either after he retired or while he was still there decided to try & make a Charger conv.
The problem was in the roof, after it was up he wanted it to look "correct".
He was supposed to have looked closely at a Caddy & the mechanism in that top & it worked well BUT----> I have never seen pics of this car with the top up? I have seen pix of it several times apparently up for sale in primer no top no interior.
Now I have seen Petes 70 Charger with the slap stick & that car is cool but whats up with this other charger? Anyone know of it or have any ideas?
