This is a long shot and my description may not be entirely accurate but here goes, when I was young I remember a film where 2 cars(I think) had to race through the desert and mid way through one of the cars crashed and they either fixed it up in a barn or there was another car in a barn that they bought or borrowed to finsih the race, I seem to remember the car being a fluorescent green or orange? Maybe a 55-57 Chevy? That's all the info I have because I was probably only about 5 years old when I saw it so it must be a 70's or early 80's film, any ideas?

I seem to remember a movie very close to what you describe , I believe that an old man gave them a Hemi powered 40 willey's to finish the race in. sorry I cant remember the name either, but maybe this little bit of info will help...Tom

Sounds a lot like Cannonball with David Carradine...

Tom, yours has to be Hod Rod, an old ABC Friday Night Movie...

Could be that actually, it may be the 69 Mustang I remember although i'm sure it was an old Chevy, which car gets wrecked in it?

Old Moparz

Hot Rod had a mid 60's Mopar with a Hemi get wrecked, then the motor went into an old Willy's.

I loved that movie.

Cannonball Buckman rolls and wrecks the '71 TransAm after sunset, as Bad Guy Charger-driver Cade Redman kicks out his headlights following a brawl in a convenience store.

Thanks that must be it, what car does Carradine get in next? The Mustang?

Cooperman

Yeah, that's the one.

Cannonball dismisses it as a "kiddie car" at first, but the junkyard guys open the hood and thinks differently!  :yesnod:

I remember watching a movie when i was a kid about a black 69 charger that would jump around the streets of a city in California.  I think it was California because it was on some pretty steep hills and i dont think they have hills like that in the East coast.  Ofcourse the car gets smashed up in the end.

Anyone?   :scratchchin:

Hot Rod is one of my all time favorites . Started out with a 65 Hemi Satellite a guy pulls out of a junkyard and rebuilds in Texas . On his way to Cali he wrecks it . He is offered a 40 Willy's Coupe if he beats the local hero" the Munz " . The steal a Hemi out of an AMC cop car ( of all things ) . Kind of a lame storyline but the cars and the mood are pure 70's street wars .
Lots of people talkin' , few of them know

Yeah, like already guessed - it is definitely "Cannonball" with David Caradine.
If I can remember, this was the first of the cross country road race movies, and Cannonball run came out after it blatantly ripping it off.

The Charger action is decent - it even has a spoiler on the trunk.

finish line there was a charger and a superbird. in the movie  the kid was going to race the charger but then it gotten stolen. he ended up finding the superbird in his bosses barn. ended up racing the superbird against a mustang.
