There's an additional bracket that welds to the bottom of the tiebar that supports the back edge of the tray.

Didn'tmention that the latch trays for the daytona and the bird are almost the same.
I finally found a decent pic of the daytona version. The bird pic shows the position a little better though.
You can see the extra piece that's wleded to the bottom of the tiebar in the daytona pic.

Ken, does the bird use the same latch tray mounting panel as the daytona? The part that welds to the tie bar.
Oh and if I give a wrong answer here on the board, don't hesitate to correct me. How else will I learn?

here is what the bracket that mounts to the core support looks like . You will need it to support the latch tray . You can bent one pretty simply if you have a break .

I've looked at enough Birds and Daytonas, MoparStuart those pics are for a Suberbird, not a Daytona latch tray, the daytona peice is just flat with the back corners cut at an angle, the Superbird has a multi step pc, you should call a real expert like Daycloner, or Jack MCGauey for information, I'm sure the guys that make the stuff could sell you the part you need ,or tell you wahat you need,or you could fiqure it out the hardway? :Twocents:

Here's a pic of the latch tray mount that I have for my daytona clone. Just needs a few holes punched. Looks a little different than the bird piece.

Unless something changes, I think I'm going to be building Stuart's Daytona clone. I'll do the back half alterations this year and the front half next year. Hopefully by the time he brings it back for part 2, I'll have a couple of them under my belt. I have one customer that's pricing an accurate conversion, steel nose, working headllamps, hollow wing, etc.. Can't wait.

HotRod,I lookd at my special 5 page daytona supplement sheet Igot from dave patic, I dont have a scanner, so nop ics, soory! but that piece is the lower sopport brace bettween the framerail that hold the bulkhead z bars, the holes in the short lip go to the valance flange, dosen't anybody else have a daytona and suberbird build sheets that they can scanner :shruggy:

Howie

That piece that hotrod took a pic of is the lower that attatches to the main brackets and ties the lower valance and nose together. I may have the upper piece that I am not going to use.

I stand corrected.
That's one of the parts that Howie brought me last year when I altered his back glass. I haven't gotten to the nose assembly yet. It's still just a pile of parts. I'm still learning what pieces go where.  :icon_smile_big:

Here are a few pictures of the top & bottom sides of the piece that is spot-welded to the radiator yoke on Daytonas.  This is what the latch tray bolts up to.

(oh, and these are already posted in the Daytona restoration thread )

Thanks Geno.
I remember seeing that piece. I think Howie has it at his shop. Hey Howie, I need that part. ;D

Hood latch is not used.Only the safety catch and hood pins keeps the hood down

moparstuart

all you have on a bird is  the safty latch(catch) and hood pins I assume the daytona is the same

Janak's latch tray does have a metal reinforcement where the saftey catch hooks into the hole in the tray.

My Janak tray is going to be used for target practice, anyway... :2guns:

hotrod98

The only way that the fiberglass tray would ever be a problem is if some dummy forgets to pin the hood down. I don't see that happening very often.  :Twocents:

Not the way I see it , I have a stinger Fiberglass latch tray and only using hood pins to hold hood down . The catch would easily wear a groove in glass tray when shutting hood . Just my two cents !!

I've always thought you should use a metal tray . it would give the z brackets some more support .i'm using my fiberglass one.  Rene   :Twocents:

It's hidden pretty well. Try running a strong magnet right behind the hole where the safety catch hooks into...
