The police your best friend?

Let me first state that I don't believe that all the cops are like this, and I do believe it is an incident. But I truely hate and despice the way he used his "trustworthyness" (if that is a word) as a tool.

Let me tell the whole story. I live in a house with 5 girls (all students), well one of them and a friend of hers went out last friday night. They went back home and on the way they met a off-duty police officer, whom she knew from her work at central station. They talked and he said I'll walk with you, because it is such a dangerous neighborhood. They said fine, he acted like he was drunk and when they got our house he said he asked if he could come upstairs for a glass of water. So they sat down in her room and he had a glass of water and pretended to have fallen asleep after that on the couch.

They fall asleep as well and he had seen another roommate of mine walk by and he went to her room (this was around 6AM) to ask if he could sleep with her in her bed, she said no and that he could use the couch in the living room. She fell asleep and 2 hours later while she was asleep he came into her room in just his boxer short and got in her bed and started touching her and kissing her in the neck. In the mean time I had come home and was asleep with my gf downstairs. She had freaked and had gone to the other roommate to tell her and she told the guy that he had to leave. He locked himself in the bathroom and the other roommate came to me. (I had no clue what was going on) Half asleep (it was now around 8/9 AM) she said I'll call you if he causes trouble. Well 15 minutes later she calls me so I go out of the room and I just see him go down the stairs and quietly leave.

At first she didn't want to report this, as he is a police officer and she was afraid if she would see him again at central station. I finally pursuaded her that we all had to the station and report this and that we could always decided later on if she wanted to go through with it or not. Well after having spend the day (from 10:30AM to 3:30PM) at the police station and again today from 10:30AM to 11:30AM I am sick and tired of this situation. I know there are bad apples, but this really sucks. The girl is 17, just started living on her own, is terrified to tell her parents, because they might take her back home. That and the fact that now she probably had an unsafe feeling at home, which is probably the worst feeling to have as that is where you are supposed to be safe. That and the fact that it was someone (a police officer) that you normally go to when you feel unsafe and is supposed to be someone you can trust and go to in times of stress. I can rant on about this for hours, it won't make a difference. She just doesn't want everybody to know (understandable) so I can't really talk about it with anyone here. So that's why I decided to rant on here. That's also why I didn't enclose the names of anyone involved. I hope the asshole (excuse my language) at least loses his job over this. He did a nice job improving the trust (which they are so desperately trying to improve overhere) in local authorities...

Thanks for letting me rant...

Sounds like a dirty bastard to me. Maybe he thinks he is above the law. That's sexual assult if you ask me.That is a long time at the Police station to do a report.....maybe they didn't believe her? Good luck and watch out he may come back to retaliate if he gets the axe like he should.

Actually they did believe it and they take it very seriously (luckily), why it took so long was because it was saturday morning and there was only one person from vice on active duty. And she had to report it with her entire story (which was difficult for her, because she was pretty shaken by all this) and than he only interviewed the other roommate. And than the time was up and her friend and me had to come back on a different time (which for me was today). I am glad they took their time, they have made sure that everything adds up and that there are no unclearities in the report.

They are all afraid for retaliation (the biggest reason she didn't want to report in the first place), but I still think she did the best thing by reporting this. He deserves it.

Tell her to hold her ground. Honesty is the best policy and hopefully she will get through it ok. Sounds like you guys need a better policy and not let just anyone in. He could have cleaned you guys out it sounds like. If he was some lunitic it could have been worse. Take care of those girls Aurthur  :2thumbs:

She should definitely hold her ground and make this very much known. If not moving back home is more important to her than stopping this person, she needs to re-evaluate her priorities.

If this guy thinks that she won't tell for whatever reason, It is going to give him a false sense of security and the next time this happens, It may have some bad results.

I agree with Dave. She needs to stand her ground or else someday he will get away with rape and who knows what. And it could be with her or a close friend. The more he gets away with it, the more comfertable he will become when pulling this crap. Have her look at this post and then see what she thinks. She has our support. :yesnod:

I know of a police dept in Idaho that has had some very corrupt cops. They got busted strip searching minors "looking for drugs" without parents consent. When I say minors. 13 to 16 years old. They didn't find anything either. But luckily the police dept filmed everything for some great proof against them self's.  But like stated in the other thread about unnecessary police activity. There are good and bad in everything. This is definitely not a good thing for the police officer to do. It makes him and the rest of the force look bad.   There are DAMN good cops out there to.

I am sure I will get some flack for this but here it goes.

I don't like cops

They think they own the ground you are standing on. They don't know a single printed word within the US or their own State Constitutions.  They are only a way to generate money for the city, county or state from traffic stops and court fines.

They do very little to protect anyone.

Look at New Orleans during and after Katrina.

Now I know good cops exist but they are outnumbered.

If most members here are anything like me, then we all come on here and read lots of things. we agree with some, disagree with some.  Then a steaming pile of crap like this comes along and you just sit there and scratch your head and wonder if it's possible that there are people out there who can possibly be this uninformed.  How can an adult who's experienced even 2 seconds of life actually believe what you just wrote?  I am hoping that post is a product of you being 15 years old or something. god, I hope it is or else my faith in humanity just got ratcheted down a notch.  pardon me while I go sniff out the "ignore user" button.

Remember these people are people first, be it bad people or good people. Some people should never be cops, unfortunately some people that shouldn't be cops do become cops; however, they usually don't last very long. A bad person will make a bad police officer, fact of life.

Rule #1 Cops suck.....until you need one.

There are good and bad everywhere in every aspect of life.

I missed the class where they told us all cops were supposed to be perfect.

Your a JackASS....I read this post and some other ones on this subject and I feel I have to speak up. I don't care who likes it or whether it gets yanked off here or not. I have been nothing but nice to everyone on this forum since the first day I posted on it but this cannot  go without notice.

I've been on the job for 23 years. I've been involved in many things over those years. Burried several COP friends and been to more funerals for COPS than I ever care to go to. It's been my observation that in most cases, people like you who bitch and moan about cops are usually the ones who cause their own problems in the first place and end up with us bad cops on their case. Like now for instance. I have never in my career gone after someone who didn't deserve or ask for my special kind of attention. Why would I? There are plenty of things to do without having to drum up business. I have people like you to do that for me. No shortage of Buttholes in this country or the world. I have never arrested anyone who wasn't guilty of the crime that I charged them with. I've put all kinds of thugs away over the long years. Dopers, muggers, killers, rapist's, robber, thieves, Child Molesters and wife beaters. All Guilty and all deserving of what they got in court. Most never got enough as far as I'm concerned.

I have so often thought that if they would shut down all police agencies for just one day.... one day, that people like yourself would be the first ones crying about how things are in ciaos. Since that's never going to happen, I guess I will forever have to hear ignorant people like you pissin and moanin on how cops are this or that. The bottom line is that your not willing to put your ass on the line for anyone at any time like us COPS are but can sit and criticize us all the time. Try walking in our shoes just once in your life and see what it's like. Maybe then you will see that we do what we do because someone has to. Do us bad COPS a favor and loose our number. Don't call us and we'll only call you when and I mean when you bring it upon yourself. BTW, that (poor me) BS additude doesn't work with COPS. If your being picked on, you probably deserve it.

Yes, there are bad cops in this world and I have worked with a few.... A very few. Still, you choose to lump us all and label us all the same. Pathetic!!!!!  :flame: but, no skin off my back. You ask for attention from the Police, you will get it plain and simple. Also, your standing on MY GROUND!
Now where is my donut and that ignore Buttholes button?  :scratchchin:  :police: :patrol:

This thread wasn't intended to bash on cops. I have had my fair share of run ins with the police and there are both good and both bad cops. They are also just people I know that and I don't have a problem with that. I just would have never expected to happen what happend Friday. Please play nice in here.

I think a majority of the ones who give the police a bad name are some of the younger ones who just joined the force and are full of testosterone. The novelty hasn't worn off yet and theres a few out there that think they are above you.

I know it wasn't the intent to bash COPS here and I certainly hope that if the guy did what the girl claims he did that, he gets whats coming to him. He doesn't need to be carrying a badge anywhere. Sure, it's incidents like this that can give a "Cop" (singular) a bad name but, this was/is an isolated incident and definitely NOT the norm.

Cops are dedicated to their jobs and sure, even a veteran cop knows a new cop sometimes gets a little over the top and sometimes needs to be reigned in but, not "ALL" cops like some in this post and in other posts have said. That's what I have a problem with. I'm a family man and have worked hard since day one to be seen in the proper light and lead by example. I  have respect for those in my profession who deal with the same things I deal with day in day out. For someone to be so ignorant as to believe that all cops are bad, crooks, on the take or whatever twisted idea they may have is just too much to ignore.  :icon_smile_dissapprove:

I was gonna stay away from the cop posts, but there seems to be a lot of vitriol from both sides on this...so I'm gonna tell you a story.

My uncle was a cop for many years and one of my best friends was a cop (left the force).  My friend was getting married and they were giving him a party at an FOB lodge here in the south.  Now, I had been to many FOP lodges before because they are great places to party so when he invited me, I said "sure!"

Anyway, we did a lot of drinking and as I sat at the bar getting sloshed, there was a good ol' boy sitting next to me that I had struck up a conversation with.  He asked me if I was a cop and I replaied "no" and his response FLOORED me.  He said "you're smart.  I wouldn't want to join the force today either.  ain't a cop out there worth a shit anymore."  He went on to tell me all kinds of great storries about cops and the kinds of people they are.  I said "I'm sure there are also lots of good cops out there" and he said "a good cop's a guy who's been on the force less than a year."

Now I'm sure that a lot of what that guy was saying was due to alcohol and bitterness...and I honestly do believe that there are lots of good cops out there, but even the good cops, according to my friends, my uncle, etc might make up 50% of all cops out there if we're lucky.

Me, I'm happy that we have police.  I'm glad that there are guys out there who are willing to put their lives on the line for us.  I am very pro-cop.  But, I am also a realist.  There are two kinds of people who will be attracted to a job that will provide the opportunity to wield as much power as a police officer does.  There will be the "good guys" who believe in the badge and what it means...and then there are the guys who see it as a perfect opportunity to fulfill their delusions of grandeur.  THOSE are the guys who are dangerous.

I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Brock Samson

How the Girl doing now?.. any developments?..

Arthu®

The girl is doing ok, just a little shaken by everything. Tomorrow afternoon we are going to the police station to sign everything. He is going to be kept from active duty as of thursday and will be charged with sexual assualt. The house has gotten a free (thanks to the landlord) security upgrade with better locks and stuff. We'll just see and what happens.

Yep, It's the macho attitude and slim education that made me choose my career.  Just think back to the guys in high school who became cops.  For me, at least, they were either abusive jocks or wimps seeking a way to act out.  I especially love the "I buried..." line, as though police are killed all the time.  Sorry, on the scale of jobs the rate of death of cops is way low.  Or how about the "The bottom line is that your not willing to put your ass on the line for anyone at any time like us COPS are" line?  Let's go back a few years to Columbine.  Kids were being shot, jumping out of high windows, the cops were there, they were there alright, hiding behind their cars.  They certainly weren't putting their lives on the line, pitiful.

"I have never arrested anyone who wasn't guilty of the crime", really?  Hey, I bet at least 15% of the folks you arrested never had charges filed against them or were found not guilty.  But that's just a technicality, right?  And lastly, you state that you have worked with bad cops.  You had a duty to report those bad cops in every jurisdiction that I am aware of.  If you didn't, you don't deserve to wear a badge.

But it is easiest to fight this by doing what I did, join the Citizen's Auxiliary Police Force.  Then you are one of the boys.  They protect their own, so just go on a couple of ride alongs, get the dinky card, and unwittingly show it when pulled over.  All is cool because you are on their side of the line.  Right, officer, uh, I mean, compadre?  Kim

I understand that this post is about a man who is venting about a stupid person who did an illegal act.
That is too bad.   Too bad one bad officer was a moron.... :flame: :flame:

Now to the other remarks about not liking cops...

I would like to encourage that person (and anyone who dares) to put those remarks on the back of their car.  Please post that out on their yard like one of those "ADT" signs.  Ask to have it written on their driver's license.... (if they have one) You know, make it obvious to every officer you see.

Who would they call when their Charger is stolen?  Who do they call when someone is abusing them or their family? Try to get insurance claims filed without calling a police officer.

Do you think all police look at people and assume they are all bad?  Should they consider every teenager a meth-head? Is every person a thief?   No, I'll bet it's just a few people that have problems.

Yeah, Yeah...  Police officers are people, too.  By the posts on this site, some of them just like their old Chargers.  You know, car guys. Gearheads.  They have their own problems, too.

So the next time you are pulled over for speeding...  Thank the officer for only doing his job.  (He isn't profiling for punks.)  He is profiling for speeders no matter what they look like...  If he pulls you over, you are the nearest criminal to him.... :2thumbs:  Before he leaves, wish him a "good day" and to "stay safe."  You may make a friend...

As you may have already guessed... I too am a police officer of more than 15 years.   Like you all, I enjoy working on my cars.  I teach my kid about cars, about working with your hands, fixing stuff, and how to make a living.    We go cruising and meet other car owners.  Most of all,  I do it to help me forget about dealing with people who "don't like cops."

Charger71.

PS- If you don't pull over for red and blue lights, don't whine about how long it takes for an officer to get to you when you need help. :popcrn: :popcrn:

I'll only address this part since the rest of it is a bunch of closed-minded, spiteful BS. It sounds to me as if you're saying cops make mistakes 15% of the time and if that's correct that's pretty good. I forget what the average is for what's considered good decision-making in the corporate world but I think it's around 60%, meaning a good businessman makes bad decisions 40% of the time. At any rate I'm sure any organization, corporate or not, would kill to have employees who only made wrong or costly decisions 15% of the time.

And as usual, I think your bigotry toward people without formal college educations is just that, bigotry. I've met hundreds of farmers, mechanics, businessmen, entrepreneurs, inventors, machinists, teachers, cops, etc., who had little or no formal education but can run cerebral circles around the most educated people in this country. Education does not make you smarter. And in this day and age it's more privilege than anything to be able to afford a college degree while at the same time it's becoming less of an asset due to the financial difficulty it creates. In other words, I think more and more people believe that going $40k+ in debt to get a degree does not offset the benefits of what that degree earns you later, if any.
