So can you get a 275/60/15 tire and wheel in the trunk?

So, can you get a 275/60/15 on an 8 inch rim into the trunk of a C500/Daytona ? I mean past the taillight cover and into position and wing-nutted down on the spare tire mount?  :shruggy:

Now, seriously - back to the question at hand...

I never thought about that. It is a tight squeeze :yesnod:. I remember that from when I had a 69 c500.

I know I could barely get a 235/60/15 to sit under the ledge & bolt down in my trunk....it would physically "fit" into the trunk opening with no problem on my R/T though...

I think his point is that a Daytona / C500 has a smaller trunk lid.

Thr trunk is the same size, it's just that smaller trunk opening on the 500/daytonas that creates the problem.

275-60-15 barely fits in standard Charger trunk opening. Certainly won't fit under the package tray as previously stated.

Umm... it's the flat you pull off you have to worry about.

You could always put a spare tire mount on the wing upright like an old Jeep CJ!

I don't think a 275 would fit. I could be wrong, but I had a hard time putting a 245/60 in the truck opening. Only did that one, now the spare is a 235/60 which doesn't go in a whole heck of a lot easier, but I don't intend on taking it in and out very often.

I've got a pair of 275's on the back of my 72 Charger. I think once I get the Daytona down off the jackstands, I'll go jack up the 72, pull a wheel, put the old beat-up plastic taillight cover on the Daytona, and try to physically ram the 275 in there...

I'm thinking maybe a hinged tilt-down taillight panel... :hack: :whistling:

While installing Howie's veg plug, I actually wondered how hard it would be to build a frame and have the whole thing lift up like a liftgate.
Two drinks later and I had forgootten the whole idea altogether.  ::)

Why don't you just put it in the passenger seat if need be?  Carry a tarp in the trunk if you're worried about getting the interior dirty.

Why not shorten a factory luggage rack, mount it to the deck lid and then strap the tire to it...........  Just a thought........... And NO, I'm not going to try it on Dana.........

I've often wondered if you could use a luggage rack from an E body on the shortened deck lid of the 500's and Daytona's. I don't think it would fit though, might be too wide.

a 275/60 on a cop car rim fits in the trunk.  marty's currently holding one.

i bought a tire at PE at the charlotte WW meet and i'm not sure if there was an attendee who DIDN'T suggest that i crack open the wing and use it for a tire rack...

275-60 on cop car wheels is definitely doable as that is what I used to have.  275-60 on a 10" wide stock car wheel  ain't happening. You might put one in that is flat but inflated, no way.Been there done that.

Larry, Mike Svec built a '69 charger for his wife.  She wanted it pink, so he found a CLEAN NC body, and painted it pink everywhere.  Like, rotisserie everywhere.  About the time the paint was done, she lost interest in it...Mike was stuck with a pink charger.  One of his buddies showed him the 1:43 scale car of the Marty Robbins-driven Daytona.  Turns out Mike had a number of Daytona pieces collected over the years, and the idea was put into motion.  The car was truly in its element flanked by Glen Peters' 43 'bird and Dan Gaddis' Issac Daytona at meets.

OK Stewart JUST BECAUSE we abandoned our cooler in the hotel parking lot so that I could bring home the second NASCAR wheel, and tire, and fender section, and 40 lugnuts, and, and, and doesn't mean i bought too much in Charlotte   :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big:
