Ok guys I need you to pick me out a good set of rocker's and shafts and pushrods the whole nine yards I am fed up with the ones I have now. I have stealth heads and my block was only surfaced so, there was minimal metal taken from the block.  Thanks...

mally69

Well I had a roller break this afternoon on a short drive. What happend was the roller pin snapped off witch put pressure on the retainer which in turn realesed the valve lock which  caused the valve to fall into my cylinder which look like this..... :RantExplode: :RantExplode:

What kind of rockers where those?  440 source ones?

firefighter3931

Ah Crap....that sucks !  :flame:

I've allways used the ductile iron rockers which are indestructible...unless the application needed a fully rollerized rocker then it's Harland Sharp.

ON your application the stock (non adjutable) HD rockers from Mancini would work just fine, inmo.

The piston looks OK to me, but how is that cylinder wall ?

When you put it back together it's time to upgrade the retainers and locks....just my  :Twocents:

if that cylender wall is ok you are a VERY lucky man!!!    your head looks easily fixable and it doesnt look like the piston is hurt?        ive seen pics of a crane iron rocker that broke and did the same exact thing.   i believe the crane snapping was a result of valve float.

Actually The head I believe is junk it has a big chunk taken out where the valve guide is at,but didnt spooge any water or oil any where.  And I will have to have a sleave put in that cylinder then have it bored 30 over. As for the piston I think it will be fine but not certain untill I have the engine apart. The hell of it is, I leave for work in a few hours and wont be home until thursday unless we get rained out. But I will get some pics of the broken peice when I get back. I hate to say where the rocker are from but they are 440 sources rocker's  I had one do the exact same thing about 200 miles ago and brandon sent me a replacement for free and I just figured that was a fluke. Didn't cause any real damage that time. But now I see that those rocker's must have some problems that I will address with brandon tomarrow BUT  I will give him every chance to make things right as far as ( hopefully maybe another head) but I wont use his rocker's. I have spent probably 6,000 dollars from him the past year so hopefully he will take care of this..   :icon_smile_question: :icon_smile_question:

Wow, that's to bad... I would hope that Brandon does the right thing for you here.
I'm forced to agree with you concerning your decision not to use their rocker assemblies. Once... ah, that could happen to anyone... but twice in such a short period?... No...
I'm using a stock system on mine, but I thank you for the heads up, and for sharing your experience with the rest of us, it is appreciated  :2thumbs:

happened twice now you say?  and you trust the rest of the $6000.  you spent with him? thanks for the tip i know a guy thats about to use the same parts  on his 383.i will have to sound the danger do not use beep on his nextel.  :2thumbs:

i was about to order a complete rocker set up from 440 source this week.  Its not going to happen now thats for sure.  Hopefully they will do whats right.  they seem to have a pretty good reputation as of now........

Musicman

Don't get to overly excited there folks... it's just one product out of the many that 440source offers, and they've done real well so far. Anyone can have a bad run, or even end up with a bad product dispite all efforts to the contrary. If it was easy, we would all be making our own in the basement. All I'm saying is, don't jump ship just because there's one small leak in the hull. I think mally69 would agree... I would steer clear of their roller assemblies for the time being however until more is learned. Always better to be safe than sorry...

jerry

musicman,i think you should ask mally 69 what he thinks of your opinion. he should get all his money back  plus the price of labor for having to replace the junk twice . new set of heads and whatever it takes to repair the block if it needs it.

I have talked to mally69... as far getting his money back etc, I think that's rather obvious... Hopefully Brandon will step up and make good here. If he doesn't... then we have something to bit** about. One day at a time... I'm sure mally69 will keep us posted.

Clarify please what kind of rockers?

Musicman

They have been discussing a recent issue with the new roller rockers from 440source.

MSRacing89

You can't skimp on rocker arms.  Stick with the big names if you are going aluminum for the street.  Jesel, Harland Sharp, or what I use Crane Golds.  Its going to cost you $500+ but...............see pics above.  Sorry to see that happen. :rotz:

I would  like to know if that retainer and lock assembly should have failed like that just because the rocker roller pin came out?
Shouldnt the valve locks and retainers done their job?

Just wanting some input here as to the strength of those parts of the stealth heads.
