what SAND BLASTING cabinet do you have ? & what media do you use for the job ?

im thinking about getting another SAND BLASTING CABINET . i had a small CLARKE bench top model for awhile but i returned it because it put way to much dust in the air escaping the cabinet & that was at the rcomended 40psi and running a vac on the port and a shop vac rigged to the top to catch dust that blew out thru the door on top . 

so id like your opinons on what cabinet to get . that is under $900.00

what cabinets let little to 0 dust escape the cabinet ? 

what media do you use for differnt jobs ? such as blasting aluminum intakes VS blasting a cast iron water pump housing . ect ect

The problem with blast cabinets is that you are constantly pumping air into them.  All that air has to go somewhere and when it does, it carries with it a certain amount of dust.

I have a larger stand up cabinet that can fit things as big as rims, bell housings, etc.  Before I loaded the media, I went into the cabinet with rattle can undercoating and "sealed" all the seams from the inside.  The back of the cabinet has an intake port into which I cut and fit a simple spunge into.  The exhaust port is connected to a shop vac utilizing 2 blue paper filters and an extra long hose (three hoses attached together) to allow it to sit outside the shop with the door pulled down.  This allows any dust that gets past the filter to be safely vented outside.

This setup allows me to operate dust free, even at a continuous 100 psi flow.

For hard metal jobs like cast iron, I use black slag.  For softer metals or polished surfaces, I use glass.

So blast cabinet is designed for sand !!! Never use sand !!! there is so many choices that wont dust up , by the way ever heard of Silicosis ??

Just got my barrel blaster plumbed in after sitting on the side of the house for three years  .  I love it.  Small amount of dust escapes but there's a port for it to do just that.  From what I've experienced, it doesn't matter what media you use, there's gonna be a certain amount of dust.  It's how you deal with it that counts.
I was sold on mine because of the steep vatt.  Some of the other one's I've used starve for media, not with mine.  He can break it down for ease of shipping, something I wasn't able to save $$ on when I bought mine.

I haven't seen one yet that doesn't leak out dust. The nicest, most expensive ones are going to make a mess. I had a Harbor Freight bench top cabinet but got rid of it because I wasn't using it enough to justify the space it was taking up. I have a friend who has one I can use if I need one. It's a Mac and it leaks too.

i do expect a little dust to escape . but that bench top model i had let way to much dust out . i just dont want to clean the garage every time i use the cabinet .

I got the Harbor Freight stand type.  Then I modified it.  Seal all seams with silicone seal.  Ran hose out back to a wall mtd style vacuum that I mounted underneath.  I suspended a sheet of clear vinyl flooring runner that I got at Home Depot on the back inside of the cabinet to keep the media from messing up the steel wall.  Use tear off clear plastic on the window to save it from being etched.  Media I got at Harbor Freight.  They have several types including aluminum oxide, glass beads and walnut shells.  I keep the media in those plastic bins that cat litter comes in that my daughter saves for me.  My buddy made one out of plywood similar to mine.
