I've been frantically buying all the Mopar parts I need for my 69 Charger restoration project for the past couple of years.  I just got the shock of my life a minute ago when I called and found that from now on, the price is 33% over list.  The list on the part off the internet was $9 and wholesale was $7.29.  They are charging $12.15 for the part at the local dealer.  The guy that I deal with said that it was the local dealer doing this and that the other dealers are starting to do the same thing. That will be the last parts that I will buy from the dealer------fortunately, I don't think I need anything else.  I wll have to order anything else I might decide I want that would be a Mopar part off the net.  And I wonder how much longer those prices will last.  Have any of you run into this practice?

I talked to the local dealer here a few weeks ago about a 4 speed shifter knob. He found 12 of them at some dealership in NJ and gave me the phone number. I called and they wanted $125 for a 4 speed knob!  :RantExplode: Needless to say the guy still has 12 of them.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

I used to live in Woodstock, IL and the Chrysler dealer there marked up all parts by 15%.   The first time this happened to me is when i bought some accessories for my wife's PT Cruiser.   I looked in the parts catalogs, and it stated that the dealer was free to mark up the prices listed.   After that, I ordered my parts from the dealer in the next town, who sold all parts at the prices listed in the catalogs.

Since I been into Mopars, I NEVER have dealt with them unless it was a part I had to get there because no one else could get it. And that has only been 3 times in 20+ years.

My dealer gives me 15% off but I always check around as some things are priced OK and others are not. The shipping costs are usually free so that helps sometimes too.

There are a number of knowledgeable Mopar dealership parts guys who will ship nationwide and will not take advantage of you.

:iagree:

As long as the parts I need come on their normal delivery truck I have never been charged extra.

I agree. Parts are overpriced to begin with, then they try to scam you on top of it. A lot of aftermarket parts [non MP] are much better quality as well. Ray

I get an employee discount on MP parts.  If you guys ever need something let me know.

Whats the part number???

I have worked in a  couple of dealer parts departments, including a Dodge one. LOTS of Parts depts. use a "Price Matrix" markup on parts.

This means they plop a  percentage ABOVE MSRP (Manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail price) on the part.

SUGGESTED being the operative word. Mopar doesn't get involved in the retail end.

Good luck with your searches, the local Chrysler has a couple guys I have dealt with for years, and they treat me pretty well.

It was the P2444641 1/4-Ohm ballast resistor.  I called the other dealer in our area down the road in Georgia and they told me the retail was $9.19 each.  You can order it from Summit but I don't have anything else I need to order right now.  In the past, the guys at the parts dept at our local dealer have been real good to me.  They were very apologetic about this-----said it was the higher ups making them do this.  I went ahead and ordered the part anyway.  Considering all the stuff I have bought in the past, this is bug dust.  And those guys in the parts dept are real nice and I consider them friends.  I told them it didn't matter if I bought any parts there or not, I would come by and see them on occasion.  But I have been seriously considering buying a Challenger in a year or year and a half.  This kind of stuff gives me a real jaundiced view of this dealer which means I probably would not buy from him.  In fact, his reputation in the new car arena caused me to go a 100 miles away to another dealer when I bought my 2005 Quad Cab Hemi Ram 1500.  I hate to say it but I have never had good luck trying to buy new vehicles in a larger town.  I always end up buying from some little dealer in the middle of nowhere.  They really appreciate your business and treat you right.  That's why I hope we don't see the end of the small town dealer as I have heard might happen.
