I ran across a 73 charger se today.
The body is very straight and I could not find any rust.
It has a 400 that has been pulled and cleaned up but has no crank or cam.
I forgot to see what rear end it has.
The Guy said the trans was a 904 so didn't bother to tell him it's a 727.
Here's where I need advise.
He wants $1200 I bet I could get it for a $1000
My concern is that I'm trying to finish my first 73 ( almost done ) and I have a 69 RR that has been sitting here for a year waiting to get started on.
If I buy this 73 I don't have any dry storage and it may be two years before I can touch it.
I thought about flipping it but it sure is a sweet car that I might want to keep.
What would You do??????
Thanks for any advise.
Oh, and I ran off and left my stupid camera at home :brickwall:

IF it was me, itd done left with me, however, if youve got the space to store it outside, simply put a tarp over it at least, id buy it for that, sounds like a decent deal a 73 400 bb car is a s steal for 1k if the body is straight and not totally rusted out. plus ive got a real nice 400 crank i can sell you cheap, get it running probably sell it for 2-3 times that price if you get the right buyer.  :Twocents:

I would Buy it ...and Flip it.

Mopar440+6

Buy it, sell it to someone who has the storage and the ability to restore it and use the profits to finish the two cars you currently own...

But seriously, I sold a '73 400 SE for 1K a couple years ago. It needed many body panels, and a rebuiild. It had a mint interior, and I guess that was the big sellijng point on the car.

I have new blades too :2thumbs:
Naw I could never do that.
I'm going to offer him $700 take it or leave it.
The RR has been waiting this long I guess a couple more months wont hurt.
I have no way of knowing if the block is good but this car has a very straight and rust free body.
I guess if I get it, I'll tarp the s$!t out of it and put a car cover on it untill I decide what to do with it.

400/6/PAC

I called the Guy and offered $700.00
He said He would take $900.00
I told Him that $700.00 was as high as I could go.
He say's I'll think about it and call You back.
A few minutes later He called and asked if I would through in a 20 pack of Bud Lite.
I was LMFAO
Heck yea I told Him.
I got it for $700.00 plus the beer.
I pick it up on Saturday>
These pics are from a camrera phone.
I'll have more on Monday.

Yea, I'll probably try to flip it.
I already have a charger and I really want to start work on the RR.
Plus I need my beer money back.
I cant believe a 20 pack was the deciding factor for Him to sell.

41husk

I,m guessing he probably would have let you off the hook on the beer if you insisted :smilielol: but it looks like a nice score and it appears that it is not an SE, fewer SE cars in 73 than non :2thumbs: Good luck with it

fewer SE cars in 73 than non

Hmm, I dont have the numbers in front of me but im 99% sure the SEs far outnumber the non-SEs in '73.   :scratchchin:

Charger1973

Actually heres the #s from the Dodge Charger Registry.  They sound about right.

Total unit production 1973: WL21 - 11,995, WH23 - 45,415, WP29 - 61,908

41husk

You are correct that was a typo there were a bunch more SE cars than non and with the possible hood swap that might have been a Rallye car.

400/6/PAC

Got it home this weekend.
It does have a 727 trans with an 8-3/4 rear end.
The 400 has had a lot of work that I didn't know about.
It has been vatted and inspected, crank turned 10/10 and bored 30 over.
It has all new pistons, rings, rod and main bearings.
I got a brand new intake and a set of head studs, valve job, a complete set of gaskets, and a trunk full of extra parts. :2thumbs:

More pics
Sorry about the date stamp, I changed batteries and forgot to reset it.

Charger1973

Oooooh thats a coupe isnt it?  I bet the VIN starts with WL21.

400/6/PAC

Charger1973

Yep a coupe.  My first 73 was also a WL21.  Its the cheapest model but also the least common.  I like the door panels because they have black cloth rather than the woodgrain.  Notice there is no woodgrain in the whole car, its all black or silver and the rear windows dont roll down, they are bolted in place.

Does yours have the rubber floormat rather than carpet?  Im not sure if they all do, but mine did, and it was hell on the floors.  They were fairly rusty from the rubber holding moisture.

Charger1973

This is what mine looked like.

The right front grill looks like there is damage , But it's just the pic.
They are in excellent shape.
That was the reason I bought it, OH and all the other stuff :smilielol:

400/6/PAC

The floor is black carpet but has rubber molded in just below the gas and brake pedel.

Charger1973

Thats cool.  Mine was ALL rubber.  I also had a 68 Coronet that was the same way.  First 2 mopars I ever owned...  I was starting to wonder if they ever put carpet in them.   ;)

Finn

Score!

There's a green 73 charger that has been sitting in this storage place that Id like to take a look sometime. I remember seeing when I was about 5, there used to be a faded blue 68 charger with white stripes and white vinyl top sitting next to it but that disappeared eventually. Maybe it'll be the next "700 bucks and a pack a beer project" lol.

$2000. maybe $2,500. cause it isn't anything special. And consitering my '72 S.E. was in about the same shape when I sold it, the highest offer I got was $2000., and mine had more options. And that was with about a $1000. in parts I also tossed in. :P
