Do keep in mind though that my rear valance SHOULD NOT be black, it should be body colour but somebody painted it black sometime in the past.

I think all 69 charger's had a black rear panel. It was optional in 70 on non-R/T cars. :popcrn:

The valence? The tail panel is black above the bumper but not below (it is on Cody's car).

Normally, the black goes all the way under the "eyebrow" pieces (quarter extensions) and down to the "lip" behind the bumper (but not below that). The odd part about a 69 is how the black comes from under the extensions to the lip. One year at Carlisle we went around to as many as we could to see the differences. The problem is that the extension doesn't reach all the way to the bumper so there's a gap where you're going to see the paint line.

Here's where to stop on the top:

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Would this be the same for a 68?

68charger383

Anyone know why it was painted black?  :shruggy:

I know the Chevy cars were painted black by the factory as call outs that it was a BB car. However, Chargers had all cars (318s & 6cyls) painted black

Poppa, here's a link with pics that may help

Thanks for the pic.  I thought that is what the 68 looked like, but mine was changed several times before I bought it and was not sure that the blacked out portion was correct.

I think these have been posted before, but here goes.

Wanna really mess your head up, in 70 the base chargers were body color, as all the others had the black on the panel trim.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

What about the 1969 base model chargers? Were the tail panels painted black or body color?

Like Brian said, all are black. My '69 is a base model and it has the black tailight panel.
