Put 340 intake on my 318 lean burn?

My Fury has a a 318 with 94k miles and a tiny 2 barrel carb that looks like a 1 barrel.  I also believe it has lean burn, but I don't understand what it is, so I'm not sure.  The car sat for years and while it runs now, the carb is cranky and should be rebuilt.  A buddy of mine has a factory 340/4bbl intake manifold he'll give me and might be able to provide a 600 Edelbrock.   Considering I'm not looking for performance out of this car and will be retaining the factory single exhaust and such, should I just stick with the 2 barrel or go to the 4 barrel?  Any other suggestions?

most 318 I have worked on do not gain much with a 340/ 360 intake & 4 bbl carb , the eddy carb may work better than the factory 2bbl on there now   but is not overly adjustable , I guess ti really depends on how bad the factory 2 bbl is
if the car has lean burn it wil have a computer bolted to the air cleaner & there will be no vacuum advance pot on the dist , it will be attached to the computer instead

I pulled the air cleaner off and didn't notice any computer in it, is it small?  It does have a vacuum supplement pump attached to the passenger side valve cover but that's it.  I'm probably going to pull the intake manifold anyway, at the bare minimum to clean it up and freshen the gaskets, you think I'm better off just picking up a rebuild carburetor and putting it back to stock?   I can shoot a couple pics tomorrow if it helps in any way.

The computer on the air cleaner is fairly large.  Large enough to clearly notice anyway.  As I recall it sticks out about 3 inches from the air cleaner and follows it around about 8 inches of it's circumference.  There will be no vacuum advance canister on the distributor.  There was a Lean Burn decal on teh air cleaner lid as well.  Been a while since I saw one but there is a guy near me with one on his car that I can get a digipic of if you are still unsure.

I don't think I have it then.  I'll take a peek tomorrow.  Here's a pic of my engine, but you can't see a whole lot.

Doesn't look to be one to me.  Just by that pic though.

definatly not a lean burn
if you can get the intake & carb for a low price I would try the swap , it should work better than a bad 2 bbl  just don`t expect a huge power gain

Ok, glad to know.  I really don't know what Lean Burn is, so I wasn't looking forward to figuring out how to eliminate it.   ;D  The manifold would be free and if he had a 4bbl sittin around he'd give me that too.  I wasn't looking for a performance gain (I already have the other two gas guzzlers for that) but was more interested in efficiency (fuel economy).  I know a 2bbl isn't always the best for economy but not sure if the Edelbrock would be any better or not.  Shame the spreadbores are not easy and cheap to find or I'd consider that.

To make it real brief, Lean Burn was another instance where Chrysler was ahead of their time in some aspects.  The idea was computer controlled spark advance to assist fuel economy.  It was a good idea but never worked properly in execution.

wakko,
The 340 intake ports are larger than your 318's.  This will cause a bad flow of air/fuel into your heads because of air eddy's (bad circular flow that goes against the natural flow).  The intake may cause your engine to run worse, as it had with a friend of mine who used a 340HP intake on his 318.  Just an opinion mind you.

You will notice an improvement in HP.  Don't worry about bolting on the 340 intake onto 318 heads, the mismatch won't be a problem with the car you're putting in on.  Be careful which intake you get, though, as some were for a square-bore AVS/AFB, and others were for the spreadbore Thermoquad.  The 600 cfm carb is a little on the big side; Carter used to make a 500 CFM AFB which would be perfect.  The 340 intake is a very good, flexible intake for just about any purpose on a street driven car, and the 360 engines that followed used the same design.  You'll need a 4 bbl air cleaner, of course.  A thermoquad will give you better mileage and performance than an AFB/AVS/Edelbrock as it is a much more sophisticated design.

Don't forget to change the ignition timing curves as well to really wake up the engine.
