How do you replace upper door hinge pin?

I have to lift the drivers door up in order to close the door. I think my upper door hinge pin is shot. How do you replace just the pin? Who sells them?

You can buy the hinge pins almost anywhere.  I've even found them in the section at my local parts stores that carry those red blister packs that say "Help" on them.  You can also find them on ebay if you have to.

To figure out if your hinges are shot, simply open the door about half way and then carefully lift up on the door as you watch the pin area of the hinge.  If it shows movement, then your pin is shot.

Replacement takes two people, a drill with appropriate size bit, a hammer and a socket set.

1) Unbolt and remove the door (two people here, one to hold door, one to unbolt)
2) Use hammer to knock out old pins (always replace both at the same time)
3) Drill out old hole to new size (as marked on new pin package)
4) Install brass bushings (come with pins) into new holes with hammer (gently!)
5) Repeat for both upper and lower holes and both hinges (4 bushings total)
6) Reattach hinge door half using new pins.
7) Reinstall door, making sure you get it allinged properly.

Done!

I did my own in about 20 minutes per door.  You may also want to mark your hinge positions on the door to assist with re-allignment when putting the door back on.

Didn't you need to mill down a little bit the bushing bed ( or it counterpart on hinge assembly ) to be able to get a gap to fit the bushing top lip ?

Has anybody bought the door hinges from SMS Auto Restorations? They look pretty good.

Instead of two guys trying the muscle the door around, up or down; we used a jack underneath the door.  That way, one guy can handle the jack and door, move it up or down, and hold it in place while the other guy hooks it up.  Worked well for me.
