I have a 68 charger with a 318 that was rebuilt about 6 years ago.  The motor runs great and i would like to add a bit more power to it. It has the stock exhaust manifold, cam, and heads.  The only thing i have done to the motor was to switch it from a two barrel carb to a four barrel, which felt like it made all the diifference in the world. How do you think i can reach 300hp? I know 318's put out 235hp stock, and i dont think it should be that hard to add 75hp. So what kind of modification do you suggest?
life's a garden, dig it.

You have come to the right place. A 318 is under estimated and can be made to haul @ss!! 400 horse is possible with the right goods on one. Here's a recipe that should net you within 300-325+horsepower. Similar to the build in my duster. Heads make the biggest improvement as with anything....Here's a suggestion...

*Mopar performance 450/455 cam (bumpy idle in the 318)
*Holley 600cfm vacumn secondary carb and dual plane intake (I reccomend an edelbrock rpm air gap)
*headers (about any will do)
*Use 360 heads shaved about .040 each w/3 angle valve job (---bolting them straight on will make you lose compression on 318) Also remember that when shaving the heads you need to shave the intake face of the heads as well so the intake lines up properly.) By this swap you also gain the larger valves the 360 heads  have to offer.

--Another route you can go with that the 318 really likes are the mid 80's swirl port heads. I believe they are #302 casting. Im thinking around '85-86ish. Look for m bodies (chrysler fifth avenue, diplomat, etc).  They have a small 58cc which can build compression but still would have to be ported in order to perform as good as a 360 head. The valves are also still smaller than the 360 heads. Just giving you some options here

Also- ditch the points for electronic ignition if you havent done so already  :2thumbs:

i stuck some hooker headers on my stock 318, u would be amazed at what a 318 can do when it is allowed to breath
