So I found a Dodge Challenger with a weird paint job......

I posted awhile back about stumbling onto a classic Dodge Challenger a few miles from my house.  A man in his late 50's has a run down welding business.  In fact the property and buildings on it look abandoned.  On his property are dozens of classic GM, Ford, and one or two Mopars.  Awhile back I saw the car from the road (barely) as it was blocked by trees and other cars.  At first I thought it was a 1970 Challenger R/T.

Well today I got pictures of it and I've never seen one with this type of striping.  My guess is whoever owned before did a custom paint job.  I'm pretty sure it's a 1970, probably a base model, not sure about that.  I couldn't look at the VIN as it was blocked by junk on the dashboard, there were also no call out labels on the hood so no way of knowing what engine.  I would normally talk to the guy who has these cars on his lot and ask him about the car, but he's a bit of a recluse, with no phone number.  There are also many house around the property so I don't know where exactly he lives.

So what do you guys think?  The black stripe starts on the hood then wraps around the noise, then the side all the way back to the rear end.  This Challenger also has a "Go Wing" rear spoiler.  Is it a base model 1970 that someone customized?

Charger-Bodie

definatly custom paint.

As for base model or R/t, you will need to get the vin to get an answer to that. :yesnod:
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

If the car just had that middle stripe..I'd think possible T/A but there goes that, yes..its custom paint work.

I don't know, but that sure looks like a '55 Shovelay sitting to its left. God I wish I still had mine...bring a Weber and some friends and grill up near the cars - you'll find out which house he's in darn quick.

Why is that '66 Pontiac convertible sitting there with the top down?  :scratchchin:
Those are vintage Cragar mags on that Challenger, not uni-lug.
They don't make that kind anymore. Somebody would surely want those for an authentic-era restoration, no doubt.

The Chally doesn't look like it has a front sway bar so I am guessing it is not an R/T.

It does have the R/T or Rallye hood. Of course that could have been added later.

Looks like a 1970 but a picture of the taillights would really help as grills can be swapped. Definately worth checking into more IMO. :yesnod:

Many non RT Challengers came with the rallye hood, and I believe the old school Cragars for mopars are being manufactured again.  I looked into them for the wanna bee, but they were a bit pricey.  I remember when you could get a set from a salvage yard for under $50 :rotz:

I know it bugs me that it's exposed to the elements.  It will probably never move again, ashame.  I figured they were Cragar mags, didn't know they were vintage though thanks for the info.

I'm planning on getting a photo of the rear of the car soon.

Sabre

I just noticed the hood has three tiny holes.  It appears to be where the engine type badge would be.  The motor is still with the car as you can see it through the dual scoop hood.

FastbackJon

You could lift the hood and check for a fender tag, but I know if it was my property and someone was snooping around my cars without my permission, especially opening a hood, I wouldn't be very happy.

So I went back and got a shot of the rear.  I decided not to go on the property again so the shot is from the roadway.  I wish the trees were trimmed back but from what I saw the rear taillights look like a 1970.  It also has the "Go Wing" rear spoiler.
