What options can you spot?

This was my first car in 2001. It's a 318. I do have the VIN but never checked the fender tag (sold it a few months after I bought it due to financial problems). So I was wondering if you guys could help me out which options were ordered.
Here's the little info I have on the Charger:

It came with hood turn signals (were gone, but the cabels were still there).
Radio had a cassette deck (don't know if it was the original radio).
PS
PB

Not sure which items were standard and which were optional. I think it was pretty much a plain jane 318

i'm not too informed, but a quick look reveals...
a black V. Top, Deluxe hubcaps which I do know were part of the S.E. package in '69, but i don't know if they are original to the '68 car or added, the buddy seat, and wood grain steering wheel.

:scope: Also i see a power brake booster and the rear of the car is devoid of the black rear trim between the lights which was standard on all '68 and '69 chargers (not so on '70s). so the car may very well have had some modifications or the semi gloss rear paint may have worn off,..
Perhaps it's one of the white hat special cars with that option package, it grouped a few of the more popular options - including a V. top and deluxe wheel covers in a special low cost package and there are a couple older threads on them with the specifics... i'm not an expert and i'm sure others will chime in..
A good lookin charger, a fantastic base to restore... too bad you couldn't keep her, I bet your kickin yourself now..  :pity:

My '68 had the deluxe wheelcovers from the factory. I see it has the standard 2 speed wiper motor. I don't know much about the small blocks but does the radiator look right? It looks like the radiator in my old 318 Ramcharger.

Oh, the radio is not factory as far as I know as they should have the thumbwheels.

The radiator was already mentioned (looks like a 26" in a 22" radiator support opening), and I see front shoulder belts (not a common option?) and a sports grain steering wheel.  :scratchchin:

Shoulder belts were standard after Januray 1st, 1968. Before that they were a common option. The hood mounted signals are an option.

The 2 speed wiper motor, if stock tells me it wasn't ordered with the common 351 Radio group, which came with am radio, power brakes, power steering, 3 speed wipers, remote mirror, and deep dish wheel covers.

It has the center armrest/seat with column shifter.

Does it have a map light? If so, it most likely has the 355 light package.

Good knowledge,  Jim. Mine (built Dec 21st) doesn't have them....   :2thumbs:

Looks like a clock (not tic-tock-tack) AND the ultra rare quart of Chevron oil in the passenger map pcoket.

I believe those options alone make it a "One of One"

Hahaha,

Yeah, that's a Chevron oil canister  :icon_smile_big:
it came with the standard clock.

Is it definately a 2-speed wiper motor? I remember it being a 3-speed. Not sure about the remote mirror and map light though.

The 26" radiator came stock in mine BUT it has  factory A/C. Yours looks identical (still have mine).

JimShine

The three speed is like this one:

So the 26" radiator has a driver side hose outlet in 1968?

The radiator in the red 318 car looks like one of those skinny later year units to me. :Twocents:
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Headrests didn't become STANDARD until Jan 1 1969 My first Charger (An October 68 built 1969 R/T XS29L9B******)

That car had NO Headrests and had the original upholstery and had NEVER had them..

I read somewhere that the lugs for shoulder belts were installed beginning 1/1/68, but the belts were optional. On thing is for sure, as of 1/1/69, they were standard, since they, and headrests, were required by the feds starting on that day.

JimShine

The front shoulder belts were made mandatory January 1968. It was no surprise to Chrysler, they even printed it right in the dealer book.

Actually nothing, I for some reason had them on my mind when I was looking at the pics of the car, and I had a buddy that argued until he was blue in the face that Headrests became standard in 68.

I guess the lack of sleep and me having other things on my mind caused me to LOSE said mind for a minute!!!!!  :ahum: :ahum:

Sorry I'll go back to sleep now, carry on!!!!!!!   :whistling: :whistling:

I have NO CLUE why I had it in my mind that you were talking about the head rests on the car, Maybe I am going insane!!!!  Sorry about that!!!!

JimShine

lol..I can understand. Its the same basic principle. Both are items that were optional at one point and became standard equipment.

An interesting note on the Charger page I posted above. Note some of the "to be standard at a later time" features, like coat hooks! I believe my 1968 had one factory coat hook on the drivers side (it had the original headliner).

Didn't know that. The car above does not have A/C and looking closer it appears that the radiator support has the bolt holes in much further than where they should be to mount a 26" radiator.

It didn't have AC - no such controls on the dash. So the radiator is most likely not original.
