Those templates are more trouble than their worth :Twocents: I've seen more trashed heads (break through) by first timers with those MP templates than you can imagine...core shift is a big problem...I still get guys who want ported 906's and 8 out of 10 times their heads are not good candidates for porting (too much shift) usually it takes about 20 cores to find two that will go to 280 or better...
now with 440'sRus and their replacement alum heads don't waste your time...all NEW heads that flow 260 OTB for $800 or so dollars...260 cfm from a head is a great head for a 500-570 lift street engine...just my take on it

yeah, the problem is the money... I don't have to buy heads, but I have time to porting my 452s

I would stay AWAY from the templates and ask people to post pictures of bowl work and then try and copy from there...
What are you going to use to port your heads?... types of carbides and die grinders ?

here's a general shape of the guide boss on a street head

A Dremel just doesn't have enough tq to be able to cut the amount cast iron you will need to remove to make a difference in flow on your heads...
Porting is a dirty..hard..time consuming job...and using a dremel just makes things harder if not imposible...
by the time you buy a grinder..carbides..stones and then add the price of a valve job and possibly some valve guides to your 452 cyl heads they could cost you more than the previously mentioned new alum heads :'(...IMHO
