how much did that cost ??what was it like ???

70charginglizard

That was awesome.

"little friends" my dad called um.

He was the pilot in the B-17G that the P-51 mustangs were there to protect.

There was a B-17G up here at boeing Field that I bought him a ticket to go on a few years back.

1st time he had been flying on one since WWII. You guys should have seen the look on his face when he came off that airplane after the flight.

Something I'll never forget.  :2thumbs:

I have it on Video. I should really transfer that to DVD so I can put it out for other people to enjoy someday.

Those guy's were awesome people.

It's stuff like this that we here in America should always be proud of.

I read the book Baa Baa Black Sheep written by the REAL Pappy Boyington 3 times it was so good. I am a big fan of the Black Sheep Squadren tv show too. That is what made me want to read the book. If you never have read it, you'll have to try to find it on Ebay or Amazon as it has been out of print for years now.

Yes those guys were/are very awesome people. If you do put that up on youtube or something, post a link. I love stories like that.

another GREAT aviation book is Brig. Gen. Robert L. Scott Jrs'.,"God is my Co-pilot" A WW-II account of  the original flying tigers the American Volunteer Group, in China... written and published quickly on a war-bond tour in the early, dark days of the American involvment in that conflict. The AVG was in china two years (i belive) prior to the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor...

                                                    http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123016793

An excerpt from his 6/07 Obit.    :patriot:

"General Scott's lifetime story and flying career are legendary. A West Point graduate, he amassed more than 33,000 flying hours in 60 years of flying. During World War II, official Army Air Force records credit him with 13 aerial victories while flying the P-40 Warhawk over China. But the general said he actually shot down nine more, though they were listed as "probable."

But he once said, "You had to have two witnesses in the formation, or you needed a gun camera to take a picture. Only we didn't have gun cameras in China. I actually had 22 aerial victims." That made him one of the top American aces of the war.

Never shot down, the general never lost an aircraft and his feats in the early years of the war inspired an entire generation of young pilots. God Is My Co-Pilot, inspired by his wartime experiences, was a best seller and turned into a movie."

I love vintage aircraft!
So much so, it kinda steered me back into the Airforce after being out for eight years.
Now I play with these big grey birds! (Yes, I took that picture....)

Great story.  At an air show in the early 90's I went up in a B-25 Mitchell
A ride in a P-51 would have to be awesome.  :yesnod:

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

I've been a fan of WWII fighters all my life. My fav. is the F4u Corsair, then the Spitfire, P-51D Mustang, P-38 Lightning, P-40 WarHawk, P-47 ThunderBolt (Jug). I really love them all. I never grow tired reading or watching programs about them. If you guy's haven't seen the show on Discovery Channel called  "DogFights", you are really missing out on something cool. I have my DVR set to recored the episodes and I watch them on Sunday mornings. Great with coffee and Pancakes...lol

The Dogfights series is great, but I have to roll my eyes at some of the graphics. Control movements are often wrong and very exaggerated, the panels sometimes have modern instruments and in one case a flying airplane's gear handle was down when it shouldn't have been.

But the interesting stories outweigh the picayune.

Forza

Great video! I'd have to agree with you Wi., P51's and F4U's are my favorite too. Used to watch Baa Baa Blacksheep on the history channel all the time. I went to Oshkosh in 01 and got the chance to meet Old Crow, now that was a cool experience.

Provide the best P-51 Mustang kit we can,
with "Fast-build" options to get you flying as soon as possible!

I'm not sure on the aspect scale between this unit and the original but here is the span and etc.

QuoteWingspan     : 25' 4.750"
Tailspan    : 106 "
Length    : 22' 6.000"
Height at spinner    : 72"
Empty weight (dependent upon option selection)     : 1800 lbs
Gross weight    : 2500 lbs
Airfoil design    : Roncz Special
Wing area    : 111 sq ft
Wing loading    : 22.5 lbs / sq ft

Sadly, the choice of engine makes me cringe. We'll have to work on that.

P-51s are cool but I really love the Spitfire! In general I'm a big fan of WWII era fighters.

Infinitely better than some of the scaled P-51's that use Rotax engines. Nothing ruins the thrill of seeing a Mustang in flight like the sound of a chainsaw engine.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
