excerpt:

"Users who try hard enough or often enough to reach the wrong sites might attract the attention of the authorities. At least in principle, Chinese Internet users must sign in with their real names whenever they go online, even in Internet cafés. When the surveillance system flags an IP address from which a lot of "bad" searches originate, the authorities have a good chance of knowing who is sitting at that machine."

Huh, how do I get us on that list? Nearly 90% of the spam (or attempted spam) users/posts originate from China. I've got nearly all of the country blocked - as some of our members who travel a lot have noticed.

Yeah, but their new system can block certain pages (threads) instead of the entire site. That's no good. What I'd really like to do is to periodically pick a single, random address from all the ones that try to spam me and funnel all this garbage right back at them. Of course, that would violate my terms of service and get my server shut down.

I see a lot coming from Russia into my servers at work but a lot more from China.  I would say 15% from Russia and 85% from China. We average around 1.5 million emails a month and of that only 6% is valid.  Most of the port scans and other activity comes from China as well.  The only problem I have is I can't block anything from China because the company I work for just purchased the factory that we make all of our oem products at.  You wanna talk about a GD nightmare, try adding 250 pc's to your network from China.  Nothing but viruses and a bunch of effin pirated software.  The great firewall has been nothing but a great pain in the ass.

I'm talking about forum/comment spam. A lot of my email spam seems to come from Brazil but there are only two email accounts so it's easy to manage. As for dealing with the new PCs, there's a reason why I'm not a system administrator. ;)
