Oh my god! It probably took more time to apply all of that bondo than it would to replace the damn quarter! And they don't even look that bad underneath that particular area. . . :shruggy:

Blown70

:o Good lord  wtf, that had to have been 20 gallons of bondo?

Well - no pictures of the car from a distance...      lets just say NOTHING was strait...    bondo averaged 1/2" thick on the 1/4 panels...

The car has a salvage title....

I was simply amazed at the amount of shit on this thing...     The rear frame rails were non-existant...   someone hacked them for a mini-tub and only left one side of the box...     then used sheet metal screws and alot of metal strips screwed together to form the tubs...       the car was completely half assed...          :'(

I'd take the bondo and keep the $20000.00. Nothing's perfect.

1968 Dodge Charger, 48k orig. miles, family owned since new.
Not a Hemi, a mini-hemi 340.

Ohhhhhh.....................thats why they call them a 'quarter' panel! ;D

Ohhhh...that's alota filler.....sure looks nice now..... :2thumbs:

A few years ago, there was a Charger at an old car auction that was hit in the rear. There was that much filler in it as well, as it was popping off from the rear end collision, and the metal underneath was very wrinkled. The poor '69 had seen it's share of accidents....

I've heard people telling me : boy your Charger still needs alot of work it still har first paint, i'll rather buy a car that's already in new paint......

Yeah right, untill something like this happens to you

But on the bright side he gets a top restored body for his 20 grand that will be alot safer to drive than some hacked up piece of crap
Greetings from Belgium, the beer country

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

BigBlockSam

here is a picture of my charger before i restored her . it had thicker bondo then that one . someone took an old corrugated pool and cut pieces out of it . then riveted to the car.  then shoveled the bondo in . it didn't look to bad either . i media blasted the car and replaced the quarters . Rene

I think I can top that one.

My Charger had at least an inch of Bondo on each quarter panel when I got it.
At the time, there were no really good replacement quarter panels, only those shitty "half-panels" that were handmade and only went to the bodyline above the wheel well.
Some great "Artisan" welded them ON TOP of the rusty panels, I'm assuming with an ARC WELDER.
A few gallons of filler simulated the quarter panel after that.
The owner got the rear leaf springs re-arched immediately afterwards....I'm assuming the weight of those quarters dragged the back of the car down a few inches.

The rear valance and corners were another piece of art.
I could tell EXACTLY when the bodywork was done, by un-wadding and flattening out the newspapers that were stuffed into the corners to back up the mountain of filler that was pushed into those spots.
March 16th 1986.
By the time I got the car five years later, the filler was falling off in large sheets.
Makes me wonder now: what the hell I was thinking buying that Charger???
